I've just been to citysearch.com

It covers everything from Movie theaters and show times, events, attractions, restaurants, hotels, map of location, etc...

even video coverage...

On positive note, it's a good site to take note and input similar features to our US geo sites for those of us who are developing...

but it's competition against a giant lol

any opinion/comment/suggestion ?

Geo is surly not my niche but curious what geo .tv owners think of that.

Know there a few geo .tv names doing very well. Well traffic wise.

One comment on competition and lead generation.

Citysearch is owned by IAC, whose chairman is Barry Dillar. IAC is the largest lead generation company in the US. They own many lead generation sites from LendingTree.com to Servicemagic.com to Hotels.com.

Citysearch is considered a niche site, with their strength in tourism and entertainment categories.

As far as competition, Local Search is very competitive. Print, online, and other local media - the field is VERY competitive for local ad dollars. Newspapers, yellow pages, valpack, local directories, google, yahoo, aol, lawyers.com, theknot.com to leads.com.

All these sites compete for local ad dollars.

Local Search is very competitive.

Like what I said, Local Search is a very competitive field. Don't get me wrong. It can be done. But you need a find a niche and stick with it.

Our niche is professionals offering differentiated services. We don't target commodity categories where price is the primary discriminator. We want categories where experience, background, and quality service trump the desire for the lowest price.

A good example is cosmetic surgery. Most people tend not to have the cheapest doctor cut into their body. Same thing with kitchen remodeling.

Most of the categories we target are NOT high usage yellow page headings. Our sales team rarely finds a case where an advertiser is choosing between us and the yellow pages. Same with CitySearch.

Limos.com is a perfect example of a niche player that is a strong local competitor. The company does one thing limos and does it very well. It makes alot of money.

CitySearch has been around since 1999 that I know of. The only surprise is that it hasn't moved to video content before now.
