I would like to formally announce the BETA launch of mobicity.mobi.

mobicity.mobi is a travel portal for US cities. It provides time, weather, and hotel information for each city, and searches for dining, tourist attractions, nightlife options, and transportation options using Google Local results.

Over 30,000 hotels are available for over 3,000 cities. Hotel descriptions, pricing, images, location map (via pilot.mobi) are available for each hotel. Hotels are sorted by proximity to a city landmark. At this point, users must call to reserve hotels, but I am working on an automated booking system.

Users can register with mobicity and specify a home city which will become their home page on subsequent visits.

I'm looking forward to your reviews and recommendations for this site, and perhaps collaboration opportunities!

Features currently in the works:
- Add hotel/restaurant reviews
- Calendar of events
- Online reservation system for hotels
- More profile management (retrieve password, logout)
- Non-US cities
- Marketing spots for advertisers (pay for placement)

Have your geo domain powered by mobicity.mobi

For those who are sitting on their geo .mobi's and would like to bring them online with city information, please PM me and we can talk about using mobicity.mobi to power their site.
There are a couple of options for this hosting arrangement:
1) Monthly fee - You pay a monthly fee, and I host the site and put in your affiliate information, so that you make money on PPC and hotel bookings
2) Free hosting - Your site is hosted powered by mobicity, and I use my affiliate information so that revenue goes to mobicity.mobi. However, your domain gets the exposure.

Please PM me if interested in one of the hosting options.

Very nice indeed - I like the design, it's fresh and I also like the attention to detail. A well deserved 'well done' - look forward to seeing this in the future too. :)

You're most welcome, and I am trying ... but I wouldn't much like comcity.com, either! ;)

All the best and keep up the good work with the developments! :music:

Ugh...I'm not a big fan of comcity.com either. But the "mobi" part of the domain is not meant to reflect the extension, but rather it is short for mobile. It is along the lines of other branding efforts such as "MobiTV" http://www.mobitv.com, "Mobi PCS" http://mobipcs.com, "Mobilert" http://mobilert.com. There are hundreds of examples of the marketing of the term "mobi", and many...if not most at this point, are not related to the .mobi extension.

I understand that your perception is tainted by your quest to pee on the .mobi extension whenever possible, but in this case your "anti-mobi" glasses has caused you to miss the point entirely.

Outside of the domainer community (and the few examples provided above), there are very few people who think of "Mobi" as being short for "Mobile", IMHO ("Cell" for "cellular", yes). I know that is perhaps difficult for some to see through their pink and rosey .MOBI colored glasses™, as well. Continued good luck with your branding efforts and ongoing developments, however! :tu:

PS. Whois.sc is a perfect example of a well developed (and then branded) site with a non-.COM domain ... I am not in any way, or have I ever, stanted this can't happen with other extensions. :gl:

Good question Reece. I've been working on it for a good two months. Much of it has been collecting and organizing the data.

I have a LONG way to go, and so many features that I wish to add. My wife is getting sick of me staying up until 1 AM.

Thanks for the kind words. I hope to introduce some new features in the coming months that will wow some more...

You're most welcome :) Quite an accomplishment to get so much work done in 2 months and I wish you all the best with wherever you take it.

Adding this to my favorites and will definitely use it when traveling :kickass:

Well, that appears to just be in your opinion.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=mobi

1. mobi

UK slang for mobile phone. First used in TV programme "3 non-blondes".

Give me a ring on me mobi.

Every new term has to start somewhere...and considering the mobile web is in its infancy, I'm pretty happy with the use of "mobi" so far.

That is exactly right, IMHO. :music: :yell:

Excellent. I simply don't see why there has to be a "new term" for the Mobile Web, IMHO. I'm keeping an eye, personally, on emerging mobile technologies ... :gl: :talk:
Continued Good Luck with your developments!

Kind of like the word blog -- we didn't need it, but man has it ever caught on :tu:
