How will the new extension ex. hamburg and so on affect the geo domain names .com, .net, .org?

Source: www.quintaris.pool.com

I predict that the price for geo .com, .net and .org domain names would get lower, when the city extensions open up for registration.

I am sure that citizens in big cities and popular cities would like to reg. and use a ex. .hamburg or . miami or .nyc or .berlin extensions and so on.

I know I would if they had a cph (Copenhagen) extension.

What do you think?

I think there will be some dilutive (on new and newer extensions, not necessarily established extensions such as .COM, .ORG., and .NET) effect with the new City gTLD's, and there will definitely be confusion with the release of these new gTLD's with regard to (again, dilution) some new and newer extensions (such as the .MOBI, .COOP, .TRAVEL, even .TEL and .INFO) ... but I think for pure Geo domain names, solid & established .COM's and .ORG's will retain their value and prestige and prices for these will actually go higher based on perceived premium quality, IMHO. :yell:

Just my two sense.

I very much doubt they will affect Geo domains. Only proper use I could see for people is if they have offices in specific towns that they wish to have localized pages to showcase them.

With geo domains, I'd be much more worried about some city/state/country trying to "pull a Kentucky" then I would these new extensions. At least early on, I could see these new extensions making the respective .coms more valuable -- eg, I think many people will type eat.hamburg.com instead of eat.hamburg sending the .com more traffic than it was receiving previously.

I can see Kentucky from my house here in Ohio. I'm always worried they'll try to "pull a Kentucky" especially since:

1.) Kentucky has some of the worst drivers in history and its a NO-FAULT state, so most drivers "game" their insurance. I know because it cost me $30,000 in medical bills when I was hit by an uninsured Kentucky motorist.

2.) They hate my city.. We "stole" their rock. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/11/us/11land.html

3.) Kentucky is the best state to play "Padiddle".

anyone know if these tld's are official yet? just interested in the .sco, going by dotSCO - The Campaign for a .SCO Internet Domain (campaign for .sco or .scot - got more support) things were still being submitted to icaan...

pre-ordered a couple anyway, Quintaris says something about a first come first served but other areas of their site mention auctions

Personally I do not see a need for a .sco just seems an excuse for another extension.
