How to track where a customer is coming from?

How do i track where a customer is coming from?
I have a shop and i have gotten some sales but not sure if the customers are from adwords, google se or ads from a site.
And is there anything else i should track thats good.

Try using www.histats.com and simply implement a code on your website that will track all traffic

Create a Google Analytics account and you will find that information as well as much more under your control panel within a few days of putting the code on your site.

The referer value.

$_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER']

But the value is set by the browser, so it can be missing, or even spoofed.
The information is also written to your webserver log.

I have analytics and i can see where the visitors are from but i have no idea if the customers came from google or any other site it just says

50 visitors google
40 example.com
and so on

All customers might have been from google.com (organic), example.com or even adwords
I need to know what to focus on so i get more customers
