HOW TO START A NAMING BUSINESS

Several years ago, I quit my day job to start a consulting business gear towards helping individual or group start a nonprofit organization. To give credit to who credit is due I was encourage by my first client to start the consulting business and I am forever grateful to him. I share the news with my wife about my decision to start my own business she immediately embrace my idea and supported by decision.
Less than 24 hours after I announced that I was quitting my job, I decided it was time to find a name for my proposed business. Although this was not the first time I was naming something, but this was different, because I wanted a name that standout, yet reflect the service I intend to provide to my prospective clients.
For two weeks straight, I did nothing else but brainstorm for potential names for my new business. Initially I had about 60 names to choose from, but within 24 hours, the list went from sixty to ten. I added ten more names to the list and then set aside the new list for about three days. At this point, I have not showed the list to anybody, except my wife.
At about 10pm the third day after my wife went to bed I started working on the list of names. By 3am the following morning, the new list when from twenty to zero. Meaning I am back to where I started from three weeks ago. While I was setting in my office thinking of what to do next, two words came to my mind “Dynamic and Point.” I have been waiting for this Eureka moment. I immediately added “Dynamic and Point” together to form a new name DynaPoint. I was excited about this discovery and at about 7am in the morning I showed the name to my wife. She took one look at the name and then told me to remove “na” from the name and that is how DyPoint was born.
Well I thought I share my naming story with you before I share with you what it takes to start a naming agency. Before I forget, I am the founder of NamingJournal.com, Earthnos.com and EventionLab.com.
Okay, the question is how to start a naming agency?
Honestly, there are no formulas for starting a naming agency or any other type of business for that matter. However, here are ten-sample steps that I hope will help and guide you in starting your naming or branding agency. I should warn you, the success of your business would be determined by what you plan to achieve in your business. My definition of success might be different from your definition, thus individual success varies.
1. Choosing A Name for Your Naming Agency
This may sound like a walk in the park, naming your naming business is a daunting task that requires your undivided attention. Why should others entrust you with naming their business or product, when your business name is a complete joke. Thus, it is imperative that your business name stands out, easy to remember and pronounce. When you find the right name, you will know because you will feel good, proud and compassionate about it.
