This may sound like a question from the Department of the Blindingly Obvious, but I can't figure out how to place one of those THIS DOMAIN IS FOR SALE notices within the Whois info for a domain. Any input appreciated! Thanks.

If it is on Sedo or Afternic and the whois in question here is domaintools.com then it puts it automatically.

If it is for all whois and you are using or not using the sedo/afternic

Then you can specify the line in contact info. But this might be risky.

You'll have to put it someplace like the Registrant name field.

I always type in a "THIS DOMAIN IS FOR SALE" in the space where it says address 2. You don't need to put an address in that area, so make sure those people who do a "who is" look up, see that you want to sell the domain.

That sentance has made me lots of money. Thats another reason why I always have my names public. Why pay $3.00 a year for privacy? Is that so no buyers can find you?

I wish I knew these things when I first started. Good luck

Yeah. I just added it to Address Line 2 and it looks pretty good. Even added a '$' sign.

"$ Domain for Sale".

Reg a domain like this-domain-is-for-sale.com (just an example, its taken) and use it for nameservers. Actually set it up as a nameserver though so if you are going to list it at sedo make it point to the ip of sedo parking nameservers which should work.

Thanks for this information. The only downside I can see is that my domains are at GoDaddy and any changes to the registrant info triggers the (infamous) 60 day lock-down period. I'll still try this anyway.

Sure,

even though you make a change and it will not allow you to move the name out of Godaddy for 60 days, you can still sell it. You can push it to the buyer in their Godaddy acct. With that in mind it will also keep displaying "THIS DOMAIN NAME IS FOR SALE" to all who happen upon the who is page during the 60 day period.

This is a great tool for selling domains as we all know most of our domains simply get lost in the big auctions houses amongst millions of other domains.

I like the dollar sign, I am surprised though that Godaddys filters are not triggered.

Nice with the $ signs added.

I'm testing this option now ;)

Yep ..... Thats a great idea. :tu:
Repped ya ... and I will be adding to a few names.
I also rarely use privacy on domains I want to sell.

Good suggestion. There is no risk of invalid whois, right?

i think your safest option is the custom email [email protected] as cache said
just make sure you can receive payment to that email lots of buyers only like to pay to the who is email
so it will make things easier!

Although you get may get more offers I personally don't think it's worth the risk as then you can be caught red-handed for 'bad faith' if a trademark holder decides to take any action. Also, one of my best bartering techniques is the 'I don't actually want to sell it so your offer will have to be significant'. This, again, would not be possible by using the above method.

Pound is also right, and most of the times that is true, I won't sell all my domains, I try to develop some of them (just don't have enough time). But with so many, if the offer is right...
In the company name I have the url to one of my sites were I list some of my domains.
