How to open a .gz file?

I'm not that familiar with .gz files, but I assume it is a zipped file? Can anyone recommend a free unzipping tool so I can open this file? Thanks in advance.

Thanks -- but I'm looking for a free zip program (I know there are many out there) and rather than downloading & testing many, I was hoping for a recommendation of a utility that is known to work well. Winzip is great, but there is only a 45 day trial.
