How to know about a good SEO company?

If SEO is all about getting your website to the top of Search Engines, would it not be logical that if you type SEO companies into Google or what ever search engine, you want to use, the company that comes up first on the list, is the best at doing SEO?

Or "search engine optimizing", "professional seo", "seo services", "seo company", "seo UK", "seo India" etc. Obviously there are more than 10 good SEO companies in the world, so perhaps you could look at TOP 10 + smaller companies within TOP 30. You could prefer companies who do not use spammy techniques (excessive footer links, unnatural keyword repetitions, meaningless texts written just for "seo" purpose) at their homepages. Stay away from sounding promises, top placement guarantees, "search engine submission services" etc. Do not believe any "testimonials" at their homepages... Usually best SEO work ranks well but you couldn`t recognize any specific "optimization" done at this site.

it's not that easy, you also have to see what are their portfolios and their rates most especially since what you've said can be done either via blackhat or white, shun the first and go with the latter.

you'd definitely need to look beyond the top 10... seo-related keyphrases are among the most competitive keyphrases there are... maybe even moreso than "poker" or "viagra."

be careful though, there are so many so-called "seo"s out here that are absolute garbage.

If you decided to go to the with SEo company I think that it worth to look trough their portfolio and get in touch with customers they working for.

Agree with everyone. Do not go in blind, and to be honest do not believe a word they say until you hear from real clients

In a former life I worked in the jewelry industry. We were contacted by a SEO company who tripled one of our competitors profits . Well they wanted 50k a year roughly to provide their services. When I asked for even basic information about their qualifications, methods, etc they just gave me that wait and see attitude.

I ended up calling that competitor and although they did use the companies services they did not do much for them. Couldnt have really, seening a then noob (me) was out ranking them on every search term

I can promise you that with the compeition for seo related terms the top 20 spots change very frequently because people are always finding to ways to improve their ranking.

I agree with it.

I myself used to tell that if SEO company is that good then they might be ranked very well in search engines for SEO related keywords.

One of the SEO site I am running is #2 for it As advertising is not allowed in this section I will leave the URL out. But Yes I do believe if SEO's are that good they should first of all do SEO of their own site.
