I tried to buy Howtohunt.com but the owner ask $40,000 for the domain so I registered the closest thing I could to develop a site. I got how-to-hunt.com and was wondering how bad the dashes hurt a domain name and if this is worth anything?

as a domain I don't see much value in it, but it sounds good.. i think it has something special this expression, maybe from the double H :]

Are you developing it? I don't think it's a $40,000 name, but I don't think How-To-Hunt.com is bad at all. You won't get as much type-in traffic, but for SEO, it should be fine.

If you develop it nicely, I know of some people that would like to see the site. ;)

Name isnt worth anything. Even without the dashes it is worth nowhere near $40k, people can ask for any price for a name but doesnt mean its worth that amount.

Thanks for the feedback. No, I don't think HowtoHunt.com is worth $40,000 either I told the guy to get back to me when you came to his senses. However, In terms of developing a site I'm hoping the keywords How-to-hunt will be good for search engine rankings for those searching for information on how to hunt, deer, bear, etc. I hope there is no peta folks here but if so you can buy the domain from me to stop me from teaching others how to hunt.

I dont think HowtoHunt.com is worth $40,000... Its obvious that the seller returns back the high amount if you ask "how much is your domain".

But its foolish enough to register similar domains without knowing value.

I would say $0 :imho:

Good Luck with your future registrations!

Not a fan of hyphens in terms of domains to hold, but if you are going to develop it then go for it. You might want to stay on the lookout for something better though. It's taken, but HelpMeHunt or something along those lines would be a lot better.

This is a prime example of a frail three-word-phrase being executed in the streets by a brutal sociopath.

The killer (withdrawing from a court mandated dosage of antidepressants) has taken two sharp hyphen knives and stabbed the domain to death. The first hyphen knife caused a mere flesh wound, but the second penetrating line razor sliced through the domain's aorta causing a mortal valuation hemorrhage.

Reg fee undeveloped. IMO.

Best of luck with your future domaining adventures.
