1) To get your site registered in any search engine (say google) you
need any website registered in google to link back to you. Genrelly if
the website linking to your website has atleast Google PR1 your site
will be registered fast. The more the PR of the site the fast your site
will be registered in google.
(
PR- Google Page Rank (or PR as it is often referred to as) is
simply an indication of the number of websites that link to a specific
website. It also attempts to indicate the quality of those links. PR
ranges from 0 to 10 (with 10 being the 'best' PR and 0 being the 'worst').
The vast majority of small business websites will usually find they have
a PR of between 0 and 5.)

Do not submit you site to google through http://www.google.com/add_url.html
Submitting your site to google with above link puts your site in their
database of the sites which are to be crawled which takes atleast
4-6 weeks.
And in between if you get some good backlinks and your site gets
registered then when the google robots will reach your site after 4-6
weeks due to your submission to above link, they will concideryou site
as newly developed and put your site in
Google sandbox.
So i'll advice atleast not to submit your site directly to google.
2) Then to get backlinks you can submit your site to some free directories
like
http://www.all-linksite.com or
http://www.linkwolf.com
or any free directory.
If you have enough cash you can even buy paid submissions.
3) Then if you can write good articles you can also submit you articles to
http://goarticles.com or
http://ezinearticles.com and get direct backlinks.
Writing good articles have very far reaching advantages coz these sites
have lots of visitors so if anyone will find your article good enough they
will visit your website( So you get free visitors) and if they like your site
they can even link back to you.
All the above methods were just to get your site registered or getting
some backlinks. But to improve your rankings you need to do a lot of
inpage as well as
offpage SEO to your site.
