hey,

So i built a web page with wordpress. Did some basic SEO and have some content on there.

So how long does it take for google to crawl my site and index me? And when they do index me, i will probably be on page 1000+.... is there a way to find out what page you are on? Or at least get a relative idea?

Also, how often does google crawl your page? because i am updating my site often.

lastly, what websites can i use to see statistics of my webpage? like pagerank, back links, age of website, visitors a day, that kind of stuff? i'd like to start tracking my webpage as well as others as well to see how they are doing.
thanks.

It shouldnt take too long, I'd recommend writing a quick press release and submitting it to a press release website, gets my new sites indexed in about 2 hours or so. Depends on the keyword what page you will be on, there are various tools out there to check if your in top 10.

The times that Google crawls your site will vary, sometimes multiple times in a day, sometimes once in a week.

Install SEOQuake plugin for firefox, gives you most of this information summed at the top.

a great way to get index fast is to put ur "domain name.com" and start a new thread in this forum.. probably in the appraisal forum or website discussion .

Very true. You can also include your site in your signature. This will help a lot in the indexing.

In my limited experience Google will generally index within about a week while Yahoo may take up to two weeks. Bing? However, I have noticed that announcing the site on Facebook seems to speed up the process considerably - perhaps a coincidence but some sites where I didn't do that took longer to index. Periodically check Google & Yahoo for domain.tld. It may take a month before your site starts getting any real search traffic for normal search phrases. However, I would recommend that you acquire or take your own relevant photos, title them appropriately and insert them in your site. I have noticed that within Google Images a number of sites rank fairly well there even though they may not be so high in normal Google search.

True! Indeed photos that are named right will do very good in Google images search. This is yet another good SEO practice.

As for your statistics the best things you can do is to install Google Analytics and a counter from statcounter. Loads of interesting stats from both tools will help you improve your site in the long term. Having said that, I noticed that frequently G Analytics and Statcounter will give different stats for the same site on the same day.... anyone have any ideas why?

thanks for the great information.

If i am on page 600, is there anyway to know i'm on that page? its easy to know when you are on the first few pages, but when you are waaaay down there and want to track your progress of moving up, it's hard if there isn't something that tells you what page u are on!

Google shows you 10 results and up to 100 pages of results, so I don't know of any way to see if you are on page 600.

But what are you trying to rank for? And do you only want to rank for one thing? I've been doing SEO since the late 90's and I really don't worry much about ranking. If you do keyword research using something like Google's keyword tool, find all or most of the keywords and phrases that match what your site is about, and use them as much as possible all through your site, you will get quite a bit of traffic and never have to worry about ranking for this or that. I call this "general optimization" but others call this optimizing for the "long tail of search".

To speed things up you can submit your site to most search engines, but if you have any links to your site Google should find you. I think they check all IPs for new sites and may even check all registered domains although I can't confirm that they do. I always submit my parked domains and new sites to Yahoo using their Site Explorer".

I got another question. I can't seem to find my domain when i search for it on google. I put my domain in quotations to find it and one search came up and it wasn't my domain. I'm pretty sure google has found me and knows my website exists, however maybe i am not indexed yet? since i cant search for my domain?

also, i'm moving up in alexa rank every day by a ton. I started at about 10 million and now i'm at 4.5 million. Is this typical? I don't get any visitors to my site either..... so i don't really understand what this means.

Generally searching for the domain in quotes "fortunequotes.com" should work, but it may also bring up other pages where the domain is listed. In your case I'm not seeing it either if you are looking for "fortunequotes.com".

A better method is to request to see what pages Google has indexed from your site. Do do this you would use:
Code:
site:http://www.fortunequotes.com
or
site:http://fortunequotes.com
For this domain it does not seem to be indexed yet. It's not indexed in Yahoo yet, but I just submitted it to Yahoo for you. :)

Alexa rankings increase (the number gets smaller) when visitors that have the Zlexa toolbar installed go to your site. I suspect you have the toolbar installed, and if you are going to your site every day or two, this will be enough to move your ranking over 1-2 weeks.

The Alexa ranking is interesting and some think it's important, but as you can see it's pretty easy for people to affect it if they want to and as such, most serious domainers and webmasters don't pay much attention to it. :(

If you're linked in from respectable websites, less than 12 hrs.

I control enough PR 5 and 4 sites that Googlebot and my server spend a lot of timing talking. It's important to have a few respectable, built-up websites to ensure that you can just link your new sites over. Once you've built those, Googlebot will come by every day. Getting indexed is a cinch at that point.
