How to get members for a forum?

I just started a forum on free softwares at imperialpages.com
how do I get members to these forums.
I am wondering!!!

Advertise it. Pay some money for links example in signs, that you will show the forums for people. Google adword is also good way to get users on your site. If you don't want to pay, try to promote it and get content. You can contact some forum posting companies or hire private forum poster (like me) to put content on your site. Nobody usually registers to empty forum. You need to get first content there, that would let peoples to come intrested about joining the forums.

I agree, nobody would like to join an empty forum. Get some activity in there yourself with the help of friends and relatives. Ask them to start new threads and make quality posts. You can also hire paid posters to get started. Once you get a few genuine members you can start posting contests or a referral program.

start making a team first to look after the forum and start posting and keeping the forum active.

Even if someone comes and finds it empty and not live then it wont work.
So first do that and then lets see

I think you should ask your friends and family members to participate in the forum.Ask them to post some quality posts with good contents. Run some posting contests.Add content all the time - even if nobody is there yet.

I would say, keep the time duration of 2 months.
For first 2 months,

1. Keep posting yourself and with some aliases, tell your friends to keep posting quality and related stuff.
2. Start advertising your forums and keep some good contest where the winner will be adjudged by the no. of posts.
3. Write a good article or newsbyte announcing your forums. Highlight the advantanges, uniqueness and information richness of your forums.
4. Keep updating always. Provide some unique feature in your forums.
5. Keep avenue, arcade section in your forums. People tend to hang around a bit longer with this kinda stuff.
6. Exchange some quality links and stuff, this should bring in nice bit of traffic which will be converted along the period of time. More informative and unique the forum, more will be member conversion rate.

I suppose this should get to good amount of members for your forums. Keep a target of 750+ members by 2 months end with more than half of them active and posting. I know I have followed this system and thus far has worked.

Thats a good idea i'de recommend anyone to do that

1) Buy cheap redirect traffic

2) Redirect them to your "best" thread (preferably one that is controversial)

3) Use "troll" accounts in that thread. Make it funny or otherwise engaging.

This technique works best for entertainment/funny video type sites

i don't own a forum but what i see from here i've learned it, why not incentivize membership and posting, others offer reverse incentives like 100 posts for a free hosting or 1000 posts for a free domain.
something like that.

Just get backlinks from sites related to ur site.

Hence getting the targetted traffic which will register on ur forum and hence increase the purpose.

Also help ur affiliates grow and hence you shell grow
