Hi, just wondering how people find available domains. I used to sit on godaddy typing ideas in but there must be a better way. Is there any service which has a list of all available domains that i can put filters on that can help me find domains?

Thanks

Tomi,

I am pretty new myself but have found several ways to find available name.

One I found was domain name analyzer which can be found at download.com, it can search a custom list of up to 3000 names. It is useful if you want to find something specific.

Even more effective in my opinion, is check the available domains list on this forum. Several people posts lists there and will create a custom list for you for a nominal fee. I have found that it is worth it if you really want something specific.

Once again I am pretty new, but I hope this helps.

Thanks! Are there any services that will let me browse all unregistered domains though? Say for example i could set filters to LLLL.nets only and get a list of all available LLLL.nets?

Tomi, I know there are methods of doing this, but have no clue if free software is available.

Also have to consider, if it CAN be done, it probably has been done, a LOT.

There are LOADS of places to find available domains. Even great quality ones you can sell for a profit.

Check out the Available Domains Forum here at NamePros...

I also offer many resources for tools/services to find available domains at my website.

A few weeks ago I decided to try estibot.com. I bought a 1 month membership for $19.95 and have been very happy with the domains I've found. I get excellent customer service too. Now there is a 1 day trial offered for only $1.

I've been using the Available Domains tool. If I wanted to search the word, example, I start with (example a), then (example b), etc. to get the most results. You may have to use example ba, example be, etc. depending on the number of results.

The tool gives you a list of available domains you can copy and paste into the Bulk Appraisal tool to get an idea of possible value. I ignore values under $200 unless it sounds commercially viable and is relatively short. You may have a higher or lower threshold.

Then I google the keywords in the domain with and without quotes to get the number of results and to see if or how many ads display. If the domain is ExampleExample.com, you'll search for "example example" and then for: example example.

Now, use the google adwords-keyword tool at https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal. Put your keywords in quotes "example example". Set the Choose Columns To Display to: Show All. When the screen refreshes put 100 in the empty white box beside the recalculate button and hit recalculate.

This will give you the CPC (cost per click), advertiser competition, and search volume. Look at all the information you've collected and decide from there. What you register will depend on how you domain.

I park them right away. The domains I've found through estibot are getting traffic and clicks much faster. I got click revenue from VOIPperformance.com the next day.

Here is one: CreditCardSlip.com
estibot value is $530
google results with quotes: 36,900 and plenty of ads
google results without quotes: 561,000 and plenty of ads
avg CPC is $3.50, adv comp is average, and low to avg search volume

Maybe not everyone would have regged on those results, but I liked it enough to give it a chance.

I can't just look at a domain and judge the value like a lot of the Old Pros around here, but this method takes a lot of the stress out of "to reg or not to reg" :) - for me anyway. I hope you all find some good ones which ever way you go!

Well you're not going to find a database of all available domains, because there's like billions of trillions of quadrillions of possible combinations in each tld. I'm sure a math whiz could figure out exaclty how many possible 256 character long valid domain names using a-z0-9-_ there are, and then multiply that by however many hundreds of tlds there are.

A better bet would be to download the registrar drop lists or the auction site droplists for names you want to go for.

I've wondered if it's possible to get a list of registered domains from the registry, that I can import into a local database and search at my leisure. Whois is slow and most services will throttle your requests or outright ban you if you request too many too fast. It'd be nice to run some dictionary scripts against a local database to find available names. I'd guess this is available at some price, but I haven't found it yet (admittedly I haven't looked very hard).
