How to deal with a donation website?

Hey guys,

I recently setup a donation-related website. My intentions are to try to raise $15,000 through my website by the time I go to college in two years so that I can get a fuel-efficient (avg. of 46 MPG) VW Golf TDI. Basically the site gives a brief biography about me and suggests that if someone has any extra change laying around, that it would be generously appreciated as a donation to my fund.

I'm not giving out the URL of the site and I won't accept any donations from anyone on NamePros (I don't want to advertise it or attract attention from the main purpose of my post.)

Anyway, since I launched the donation site (January 20) I've had 43 visits, 217 pageviews, and 32 unique visitors, and 0 dollars and 0 cents.

  • Have any of you ever made a donation site like what I am describing?
  • What are effective ways to get traffic or to let people know you're there?
  • How can you persuade people to donate, even if it's just a few cents?

Thanks,
Andrew

I dont think you would raise anything unless its for charity.

The way people see it is 1 car wont make a difference, and at the end of the day you will be the happy chappy when you recive your new car from other peoples money, so i cant really see that working.

Why not raise the money, buy the car then donate the car to a charity that needs it, something like a private care team that travel house to house and clock up lots of miles daily.

Just an idea. Ive never donated, because charitys can be corrupt, and no1 will ever know if they are or not.

By law a charity only needs to donate something like 22% of its earnings, the rest can be kept as profit. I was shocked when i seen a charity shop in my area advertising job positions for 12k a year, thats a higher wage then the macdonalds accross the road.
