Hi

A buyer contacted me about a domain, and we agreed on a price, and the buyer wanted to complete the transaction via escrow.com

i said ok, since escrow.com is a reputable company.

however, when i read their domain transactions, i see that their verification method is the WHOIS details.

right now, the domain's whois details is my details, if i proceed with the domain push to the buyer's account (the domain is registered at godaddy), what if the buyer keeps my WHOIS details (or change it to my details) and then say that they havent received the domain yet?

im asking this, cuz i remember i read somewhere in namepros about something similar.

the transaction status right now is at the stage where i have to push the domain to the buyer. the buyer sent the money to escrow.com and escrow.com approved it.

im being careful.

i would really like to hear your advice.

thanks

Yes, if the buyer is dishonest he can keep the WHOIS in your name or put it in the name of someone else and claim to never have gotten the domain. Even though you're using escrow, you still have to exercise some level of faith in the buyer.

There is a positive here though -- the name is at GoDaddy. Most of the time I hate this policy of theirs, but in this case it is beneficial to the seller. When you push the domain to the new owner, they will be unable to transfer it to another registrar for a minimum of 60 days. So, if your buyer does attempt anything funny, at least you'll have that time period to try to get the name back with the help of GoDaddy and Escrow.com.

Just be sure to fill out the full WHOIS details of the new owner when you do the push. When he receives the domain in his account, it will show the WHOIS info that you entered when doing the account change.

Good luck!
