Scammers Sending Escrow.com emails

Hi,

My partner and I have a small network of classified ad sites and while we have blocked most of Nigeria and other such counties that are full of scammers, there are still some that get on our site.

I have just been made aware of a new scam that could take even more experience users in.

The scammer offers to sell something and says they will use Escrow.com to protect both parties. The buyer then gets an email that looks like it is from Escrow.com and is instructed to send the money to Escrow.com via a MoneyGram Agent. If the buyer does so, the money goes to the scammer and they have just been taken.

I was sent a copy of the scammer email and will be posting it on some of my blogs - let me know if you want to see a copy of it. The person that sent it to me and alerted me about the scammer ad on out site was almost taken in, but called Escrow.com with a question and that's how they found out about it.

* Never download or open a file or picture from someone you don’t know

* Escrow.com does NOT send emails with payment or shipping instructions.

* Escrow.com does NOT accept payment through Western Union or Money Gram.

* Escrow.com does NOT have escrow agents.

Thanks for the add-on information. I know about Escrow.com but have never used them. I had not heard of a Phishing-type email used with a scam ad before. It's scary because I might have been taken in myself if I was not extra careful. I always tell people not to trust anyone, but now you can't trust anyTHING either...!
