discuss How to avoid domain Addiction

One of the disadvantages between domains and my other investments is that Domains can become addictive,

tips i find that works for me to avoid getting it addicted,

1. take regular breaks for a week or two, or even months...
2. Leaving the domain in cart for 24 - 72 hours before registering,
and thinking few times if its really good
3. Strong discipline, time spending on it, and how much to invest
4. i leave namepros for a week or two regularly

if i feel to much;

i change password of the Go Daddy account and give it to someone close to me to me to hold for few days

a addiction is very hard to cope, need to control it before it becomes one

How do you guys deel with that?

Success can be addictive in any asset class.

Domains can also become addictive because they're collectibles.

Honestly i don't feel the same in my real estate and other business.

there is something pulling in domains, i found myself spending hours and days searching and searching to find hidden gems...

At a certain point i decided, if i cant have control over it, then domains is not for me

I'm not ready struggle with addiction my entire life

IF you continue without any proper result, THEN you are addicted.

I am sure will get pushback for this--but domainers tend to be addictive and OCD personality types.

Not even monotony and solo work with slow pace results deters us.

Most normal people don't obsess over minutia or wouldn't have the patience to obsess the way we do. It's both a flaw and an attribute. Which one depends on the person.

If you are draining bank/credit cards to pay for renewals or registrations you most certainly are in need of intervention.

If you never spend more than you can safely lose and if your other finances are not harmed it's not turned into a money problem.

Another danger is getting so engrossed mentally and time wise you neglect other important things in your life entirely.

Domaining/Life Balance is vital to your well being and your success in this crazy niche.

Well, I am not addicted. I can stop without any problem if the "real life" around call on me.
However, I do use much time here.

Keeping a portfolio with good names helps. Because then you're not always looking. What I mean by this is; the search never ends when one is not satisfied with what they have. If we make good investments it is just a matter of time and recognizing opportunity and taking advantage of it when it happens.

Just because there's a trend doesn't mean it will fit you. Learn to manage your domains on a case by case basis. Keep an eye on renewals so that you don't have to worry about them every month. Drop the shitty things. I renew domains twice a year while culling those that simply don't make sense (even though they may have at one point).

There is a benefit to building a good foundation on names, even if it's just less than 100.

Otherwise, a domain addiction could be a business. It requires constant vigilance. It may not always work in your favor, many businesses come and go the ones that survive are two:

- ones that provide domains that last, they will sell someday
- ones that provide domains that don't last but meet fomo, they may sell really quick

Be addicted to making proper naming choices, not bad ones. An addiction can also be called a revenue sucker. If you beat your addiction, you're sitting on revenue opportunity.
