Hi Fellow NPers!

I am seeking advice as it relates to the price of a domain that I'm marketing to a carpentry company. It is my first REAL outbound, so please bear with me. I cannot reveal the domain of course, but let's say their domain is QualityCarpentryFL.com and I have QualityCarpentry.com. It's not some huge cooperation, but it seems to be a well-established and lucrative business. Their website is tech-savvy, interactive and developed well. It's family-owned and there are four employees. Seems to be a startup.

I am currently in contact with the owner and he said that his interest depends on the price. Considering that I got it for $1, I think that $300-$500 is fair --- but I'm not sure. In my research, I found out that he paid $299 for his logo. If he's willing to pay that much for a logo, then surely he would buy a domain for the same price. Then again, I don't want to be greedy.

Any Suggestions?

Thanks!

Depends if you need the money or not. I would say $300-400 is a very likely sale given what you've described. If you don't need the money and want to try a little higher then go up to $600-700. Remember though, an end user will haggle more often than not in my experience, given the opportunity, so if you start at $300 it is likely you will only see $200-250, so you if you DO need the money I would say start at $400. If you don't need the money then go higher. Two word domains that suit end users I have been brave and asked $1000-1500 before and it has paid off.

You just got to ask yourself one question, "do I feel lucky?", well do you? :)

Well, he offered $100. He said this "No thanks, my present domain name has been serving us fine. It would be neat to have but its not a priority. The most I would pay is $100". Considering that I bought the domain for a $1 two days ago, I guess I'll just accept it.

The guy told you that at the moment, he can live with the name he already have. Startup? Only 4 employees?

Get his $100 and move on. You can find here some good names for $100, or maybe less. Buy one, and resell it for $1,000.

No other end users to contact? If not then take the money and 1000% roi and be happy.
