discuss How much age of a domain matters? Is it really important?

As we all know if any domain is aged 5 or 10 or 10+ then its promoted as a quality of that domain, surely it does matter specially to certain domains but generally i see it gets overrated. what you guys think or believe?

Also i have seen people valuing an aged domain more than the domain which was aged in past but recently caught after expiring, do you think its fair? you believe same?

how much age of domain matters to you when you are purchasing it? how important it is for you?

Many domainer to domainer sellers/buyers care about age. End users could care less.

I have never had an end user ask about age. Domainers care about age because a domain that has been tied up for years generally has a higher probability of someone out there wanting that name when compared to a domain that was freely available to register until recently. Once the age of a domain resets, it takes more effort to check its history. Some domainers might question the quality of the name if it goes all the way to expiration instead of getting grabbed as a pre-release. There are a lot of eyes out there, but we do miss good ones from time to time. My purchase decisions are strictly based on whether I want the name for myself or if there are a few others who would want it enough to make it profitable for me.

Very old domains (pre-1990) can have a "collectible" value.

The rest of the time I don't think it matters if the domain is 2 or 15 years old.

Very good domains have been picked first and registered a long time ago so logically older domains are in general of higher quality so of higher value. But it has nothing to do with the age itself, it has to do with the domain quality.

Basically, a good name is a good name is a good name.

Just because someone renewed a terrible name since the 1990's, age doesnt make it any better.

A good domain name can literally be a few hours old it would not make a dent in its value one bit.

it matter when you plan to develop a high content based website on the domain,
and only if the old versions got these great old links that are highly ranked(dmoz, yahoo directories,...)

as i sell some seo services,
i got some clients websites ranked on domain , only because the old domains had solid links,
so there is a value to get organic traffic fast

the google ranking has still this older is better preference
