How many Whois searches allowed?

Hey,

Could somone tell me what the restrictions are on whois searches. I searched a few today and the service gave a message saying "You have gone over your Whois search threshold. Please come back later"

Please could somone point me in the right direction as to how many searches are allowed per hour.

Depends on what service you use. Whois.sc always limits your searches unless you pay to sign up with their service. Places like Nameboy.com give you unlimited whois searches, but aren't always the most up to date. I also think GoDaddy and DomainsBot are unlimited, but you have to type in the access code,(I think is a hassle)

If you want to get wild you can use Name Intelligence's API framework and do hundreds of thousands of queries, etc.

Or else their general web client at whois.sc. I prefer them over all others.

So, the question comes down to how many searches are you needing to perform?

Whois.sc are good, if you need to do more than just a general look up now and then they you need to satrt looking at paying for a service.

After all you are using there scripts / hosting / bandwidth to further your profit making business ?

I use whois.sc also a lot... but i have to say... its not always correct...

Check out whois.ws. I do not think it has a limit to the number of searches you can run. It sometimes says domains are available that are not, but I have noticed other whois services also have this same problem.

if you are talking the real whois and not web interfaces, or the cached whois.sc, it depends on the extentension and in the case of .net/.com the registrar.

try diffrent whois services. there are lot of them .. even if u run out on one. try from some diffrent..i do this a lot

But, if we try at different ones, then the time would't be the key and some might register before we do.

This is one of the reasons i set up my own whois tool, it is virtually unlimited, free and hastle free, it may not always give the best results on all querries (yet) but i use it on a daily basis and it works good enough for me in most cases...Feel free to use it as much as you want :
