Hello,

I have a company domain which is a .ch domain (Switzerland). 3 days before it expired (25.April), I transferred it from Moniker.com to GoDaddy.com, unfortunately something went wrong and by the time it arrived at GoDaddy, I had only a few hours left to renew the domain but I missed the deadline, so the domain expired.

I was told by GoDaddy support that there is no way to get the domain bacl, because there is no redemption nor grace period for .ch domains, and they can't even get the domain back. All I have to do is wait until the domain dropps so that I can re-register it.

I remember I let a .ch domain expire once, and it took only a few days until someone else re-registered it (about a week I think). Now with my company domain, its been 3 weeks already and it still is not available, nor can it be registered.

Anyone familiar with the drop duration for .ch domains?

As far as I know with similar ccTLDs they just don't have a grace renew period, which means that after expiration they immediately go into Redemption. Now, this Redemption is typically shown as around 14 days, so the domain should've been released however this phase is typically a little tricky and can vary, its not automatically set to be released after the period passes.

I guess waiting a little more would be your action in this case...

I was under the assumption that a redemption period means, that the domain could be renewed for an additional fee? However GoDaddy support on the phone told me they cannot get the domain back.
I see the domain is still in my GoDaddy account under "Expired Domains" and the status is "Expired - Registry Redemption", but when I check the domain and click "renew" it tells me "Not available for this TLD".
I would be willing to pay the fee. Could there have been a misunderstanding with GoDaddy support?

Fair assumption. Redemption period does normally mean that the registrant can still renew for quite a steep registry fee. But to be honest I'd stop my assumptions there as I can only mislead you. There is a big possibility that even Redemption works differently with ccTLDs. If someone else with direct experience can pitch in, it would be great, now I am also amused to learn the answer ;)

Though "misunderstanding from the GD support" is always a valid assumption too... ;)

Thanks.

This is an answer I just received from someone else:
Until the end of 2014, there was 14 days drop time. Now, it is about 40 days.

This is such pain....! AH!
