last month around 12/12/2005 i got on offer from sedo regarding one of my (.be) domains, the name is registered with eurodns.com. i accepted and the buyer paid

'We have received full payment for this domain. Please await further instructions from your transfer agent. It is often the case that we have to wait for certain details from the buyer so please be patient during this period.'

i haven't recieved any other word since, how long does it take for these things to close? i haven't gotten any word from eurodns regarding a transfer request...how long does it freakin take?????

By doing this you are stumping your chances of selling your domains IMHO

This is the biggest domain selling company going! They get alot of sales and probably have a hell of alot of work to deal with.

Hope that it all goes through smoothly
:)

Well this is what happens with MONOPOLY!!!!!

i hate monopoly.... i rather go with oligopoly..

i heard many whinings about sedo's customer service.... they are worst than a cow dung.
All are rip-offs eventually. ... look the amounts of sales there are making, and look at the customer service they're providing.

Sick sick sick sick D-:

Competition makes them run like a fox in the woods...

and that's the reason why i like to to see google to be one of the superpower... because i am sick of Microsoft.

You've heard this and that but: did you experience them first-hand ?
I've sold a few names with them and it's always been smooth.
Can take a few days to more than one week (depends on how the buyer pays: wire transfer or plastic).

They are not alone, you can go with Afternic if you prefer.
Talking about Afternic I was a member there in 2000, at the time it was an offshoot of register.com. Then ownership changed. Even though I had paid the $5 or so membership fee the new owners decided that the existing members would not be grandfathered and would pay $50 or so (can't remember). I did not renew membership.

At least with Sedo you have nothing to lose. You get a few bucks from PPC so they actually *pay* you and you don't pay anything as long as you don't sell. I guess that's what make them attractive, including for part-time domainers.
IMO their fee is reasonable if your park with them.

Was this problem my own fault?

12/23/05-The buyer paid.
1/4/06- Against my registrar's advice, to only unlock domain when ready to transfer, I left my domain unlocked for seven days. Concerned about the unlocked status, I informed Sedo I would lock my domain in 2 days if no action was started.
1/4/06- Sedo replied: I advised the buyer again to start the domain transfer. If he doesn't start the transfer in the next 3 days we will start the transfer through our Godaddy account.
1/9/06- Received this from Sedo: The status of the domain has been changed to Register lock. In this status it is not possible to transfer domain. In order to start the transfer please unlock the domain and inform us once you did so. I immediately informed Sedo that I had unlocked the domain.
1/16/06- After seven days and no request for transfer, I locked my domain.
1/17/06- Received a request for transfer and forwarded the security codes to Sedo.
1/24/06- Sedo informed me the transfer had been denied because of lock status. My fault, I forgot to unlock domain. I informed Sedo I unlocked domain.
1/31/06- 7 days and no transfer. I informed Sedo that I had another request for this domain and to please tell the buyer that if he still wanted the domain he must complete transfer by 2/3/06. Sedo thanked me for the message and said they had informed the buyer.
2/1/06- Message from Sedo: The buyer informed me he has started transfer request through his GoDaddy account. Upon receipt, please forward the transaction ID and security code to us.
2/3/06- I never received a transfer request but when I checked today, my domain was no longer in my account. I checked whois and it had been transferred to GoDaddy. I'm hoping that Sedo did this using the first security codes I sent them on the 17th. I can't get an answer from Sedo because it's a weekend. I checked with Godaddy and they said the transfer has been denied, although it shows up in whois as reg. at GoDaddy. I guess I will have to wait until Monday to see what Sedo says. I really like Sedo except for the fact that they don't have time (or maybe the patience) to help
a first time seller. Was I overly concerned about leaving my domain unlock for several weeks? If I had to do it over again, I would stipulate that the sale must be completed in maybe 15 days or the sale agreement would become null and void. This could cost me a sale but at least I would know if the sale is legit in a shorter time. I have sold through Escrow.com and had my check, in hand, in less than 10 days so I know it doesn't take this long. I know this was probably my fault for being paranoid about unlocked domains. Am I the only one? Is it safe?

Update-Please advise.

I know this was probably my fault for being paranoid about unlocked domains. Am I the only one? Is it safe?

I e-mailed Sedo and asked them if they used the codes I sent them on the 17th and this was their reply.

We didn't use the old code to transfer the domain and we didn't initiate the transfer.
I will double check with the buyer and let you know upon receipt of more info.

Do I have any reason to be concerned about this?

2/15/06 - Payment for this domain has been deposited in my paypal account today. I had to upgrade my paypal account to a premium account in order to except this payment. This cost me $20.40. What a headache!! All I can say about this sale is that I'm glad it's over and done with. (Lesson learned) I will definitely handle things differently next time.

All I can say and I am quite new to Domain trading is that it all seems so seedy and untrustworthy in this domain world. I mean why cant a large company like SEDO just do the business quick and efficient like and reply to problems promtly and efficiently. It seems to me that this entire domain business is suffering from INCOMPETENCE,UNRELIABILITY,BAD ETHICS, BAD SERVICE,DISHONESTY just to name a few.
Oh and lets not even mention PAYPAL
