Hi, I have a current PR2 website with 1651 backlinks about 1400 of those links are with yahoo, 15 are with google and the rest with MSN.

should it go up next update?

The site is currently half constructed so could that have affected the update in PR in the update that just went past a couple of weeks ago??

I just wanted to know how many backlinks do you need for it to increase in PR?

as my other site a arcade site has a PR2 but 262 backlinks?

Opps I was getting mixed up with link popularity and backlinks.

Does link popularity have any effect of the PR?

What is crucial for increasing pagerank is that you need relevant backlinks thus links linking to your site with related content.

Say you have a site about arcade games then if you have a backlink from a site that explains a little history about pacman and it links to a page of your site with a pacman game then it's a relevant link.

It would be even better if you have a anchor link thus the keyword as a link such as Pacman since this ads even more weight to the importance/relevancy of the link.

And thereby if more of these type of backlinks are created increasing your pagerank.

Don't concentrate to much on creating a high pagerank site - concentrate more on creating a high traffic site.

There are websites with low pageranks that have more traffic each day to their website then websites with higher pagerank.
And a higher pagerank also doesn't necessarely mean a better SERP (Search Engine Result Position) for your website.

pagerank has nothing to do with how relevant a link is or the anchor text. its merely a measure of the quality and number of backlinks going to a site.

And how is quality determined? By relevance....;)

I suggest this article to read a more extensive explanation of why relevance is indeed a important factor in pagerank.

Ok, I checked the backlinks to the site and it only has 40 :?

I had the site submitted to 500 directories now with the link popularity it shows the sites listed but how come they do not show as backlinks?

The site was submitted to the directories about 3 months ago but a trusted member over at DP.

I just dont get it :(

Lets just say 50% rejected my link shouldnt that mean I have 250 backlinks?

What did you do to check the backlinks and what site are we talking about?

Keep in mind that Google doesn't show all the backlinks it actually has.

Poker Tutorials

(currently it lost its CMS so its just got a plain HTML page now thats what caused me to look up backlinks ect. and see if it was worth rebuilding BTW that is my second template design not the best but the best I could do)

I see a total of 1,530 backlinks for PokerTutorials.info by using this tool and i see in the first pages already some unrelated links to your site.
If you would like to increase your pagerank you should concentrate on getting backlinks from relevant pages to the page the backlink will be linking to and preferbly coming from a page with a good pagerank so that this can effect the pagerank of your page.

Relevancy is key since if the page where the link is coming from holds no relevance to your content then the pagerank of the page the link is coming from holds little to no effect for increasing your pagerank.

Get relevant backlinks from pages with good pagerank this will result in a higher pagerank for your site.

I have a while back also submitted a site to a substantial amount of directories and after a couple of months i only noticed a few backlinks from these.

Use quality directories that holds a good pagerank (More then 0) to submit your site to. But concentrate more on getting backlinks from real live sites and not just directories.

It's not all about directories, Google knows the "abuse" of directories and filters accordingly.

Whats the difference between Link popularity and Backlinks? iwebtool.com lists my link popularity as the same as that site but when I search backlinks via iwebtool.com it shows 40 sites.

Also would you recomend I buy links on gambling/poker related sites?

{EDIT}

Oh wait now I see it. Yes there is 1500 backlinks my bad the stupid next button never loaded the first time so I only saw the first 40 sites.

Do you still recomend I buy links or how do I go about getting links? Someone sugested articles

Buying links is a option but this option depends if you have funds for buying the links.
Here is some reading material for you related to buying links and the pros and cons of it.

That is one option.

2: Link Bait is another option to acquire backlinks and very effective.

Creating sticky content, something that your visitors find interesting. Why not approach professional pokerplayers and ask them to do some interviews.

Tips from the cream of the top of pokerplayers will definitely get the attention of your visitors :)

Hope that helps a little.

Ill read into linkbaiting tommorow. Thank you for your help.

Paying for links isnt the best option I think getting a article written would be better. I would pay someone as my english is pretty shit.

You just seem to have those links ready to post for others.

Thanks again and have a good one. :)

Look at it this way, you pay for someone to write a article for you and submit it to various article directories hoping to get picked up by webmasters with good pageranks. Hopefully the article is a very good article otherwise you will not be getting the effect you are hoping for.

Paying for links is a instant result and if your pages increase in page rank you can sell links yourself which can cover your costs you had to make ;)
It is also easier to exchange links then since you have better pageranks for your pages.
You just seem to have those links ready to post for others.

;)
