Hello

So I know that Google had a pr update in April. My site at techguywebdesign.com was a PR1 before the update and is still a PR1. I am very confused because I know that PR is all about inbound links. I had a PR2 about 6 months ago with around 400 backlinks. It went down to a PR1 a whils ago. I started doing some link building. I have 1300 backlinks in Yahoo site explorer. Shouldnt the PR have increased?

You've said it yourself that you have PR2 for like 400 sites and yahoosite explorer told you that you have 1300 inbound links.

In some sense might be that there are more lower PR linking back to you than those with higher ones, right? This can be the reason why you're PR decreases.

Page ranking has more algorithm to follow and the more you increase lower PR sites the greater the chance for its PR to reduce.

Thanks for the reply. I wasnt aware that being linked to sites with low PR would affect my sites PR. I know you can be penalized for things like link farms but I wasnt aware of that. Any advice on what I should do? right now I am paying someone to build backlinks.

That's not at all true, unless they're spammy links, irrelevant links, paid links, links added at an unnaturally fast speed, or any or all of the above, and as a result some of the links were devalued or you triggered a penalty. A link from a page with a lower TBPR than yours doesn't SUBTRACT from your page rank. It still passes link juice, it just has less of it to share.

That said, toolbar page rank ism't much more than a toy. It's a snapshot of PART of Google's INTERNAL page rank (which is constantly being updated and which is what they actually use, day-to-day)

Instead of obsessing over green pixels, focus on rankings and results - it's much more productive.

My two sites about Commodities Future Trading and London Futures got PR2 from the last update. By the way, my keyword ranking didn't get higher but down. I don't understand why the more we try to work the lower it downs. There are so many rules Google uses to evaluate our work that I sometimes don't understand anything. So confused!

Google updates the backlinks,
Your backlink : link:techguywebdesign.com - Google Search

Google backlink numbers, I think it is correct.
Based PR and backlinks from Google, Yahoo are not links backlink. That's your problem.

Increase your backlinks on related sites and high PR sites. Thats the most effective key for it.

My portfolio jumped to PR1 this month. Anyways, I would think that you might be adding backlinks too fast, that's a huge jump from 400 to 1,300. I try to make 10-20 backlinks/month, and it only took like 1-2 months for me to get the PR doing it this way, so just take it slow and make it look natural.

Now since Google has added one more punch in their algorithm, I bet next PR updates will have serious change.

Well I am part of the lucky ones. My site went from PR 3 to PR 5. However, it's on a very old domain name, has loads of backlinks ( most of them are from link baiting ), and only unique content.

I prefer not to be chasing foremost PR update because SERP results are much more significant for me rather than PR estimates.

I have no proof, but I suspect that as the size of the internet increases they make adjustments to maintain the approximate distribution of the various PR levels. In other words, they adjust the requirements so that the same percentage of sites are PR1, etc.
