I registered few .mobi but mostly in other languages than English. Thus, I went to do a quick check to see if it's picking up in some markets more than other (and in what industries or services).

I made a google search site:.mobi by languages. The best results I found are:

English 104'000
German 47200
Chinese simplified 28,500
Japanese 26400
Dutch 3380
Spanish 1310
Polish 1460
Italian 1270
Swedish 1080
French 964

This is not a great indicator (some pages are wapedi (=wikipedia), there are more parked pages and speculation in some languages. I also feel that the German number is inflated since Sedo shows parked pages in German to me. (Maybe someone else could check this if it interests you too and I will edit)

But I thought the evolution will be a good indicator in the future and thus that it could be a good idea to share these numbers here.

I encourage people who says that .mobi only exist through park pages for speculators or big companies that will simply redirect to their .com to take a tour.

For example: in Italy, from tourism: http://www.ermes.mobi or Film festivals
http://www.cineuropa.mobi/ to Postbank in Germany http://deutschepostbank.mobi/ etc etc......it starts...

If I read the rules at .mobi correctly it says .mobi's will NOT be allowed to just redirect to a .com or the name will be taken back...

Is that true? I did not know about this rule. If this is the case then yahoo will have to do something, because yahoo.mobi redirects to their .com site, although mobile.

I think I read it in the section about submitting a proposal for a premium word

Perhaps premium words are different, but Pinky Brand said they will not take a name back - if the rules are not being met the name will be disconnected, but will remain with the owner. I assume the owner could then show mtld that they are now being good, promise to never do it again, and their name would resolve again.

In Europe to go on your cell phone and use the internet, txt msg. Is DIRT cheap. So everyone does it. I strongly urge all people to gear there sites to include US and Europeans, since they will be the most likely to use it.
