http://domainate.wordpress.com/2011/10/04/how-kevin-bacon-six-degrees-kicked-off-my-domain-business/

This is an article regarding my beginnings in the domain business. As of last month, I've been a full-time domainer for 4 years, BUT I did not see immediate success when I started out (and to let you in on a little secret, few people do).

I thought this may help some of you who may be discouraged that your start isn't going as well as you hoped. I didn't make a sale in my first 9 months, but the floodgates opened in a rather interesting way after that, involving none other than the Hollow Man himself.

Well written article and great story. I love .in and I see plenty of future in it. Hope you have continued success!

Good read, however when I do read stories on how they made it I would like to see a bit more info put in...Like for instance on your Poker.in sale. how did you get the domain? was it a drop? etc etc..I know many dont want to let go of secrets but to really let people see how its done may shed a brighter light on things.

Actually my buying of Poker.in is what led me to inevitably join NamePros believe it or not.

I was into ccTLDs at the time and with .in being freshly out and having high potential, it was one that I had a number of names in and was considering getting more. At the time, I had focused on strong 1-word ccTLDs like business, games, poker, casino, etc. and generally only have obscure ccTLDs in them, but with having success selling them, I decided to look for some better ccTLDs of them. I specifically looked for domains where nameservers had not been set (so not even parked), wound up emailing the owners on about 40 of them to see if the names were for sale, about 8 came back with responses, only 5 said they were for sale, 4 were for ridiculous prices and the only one that came back with a reasonable price was Poker.in. Guy came back with $5,000.

At the time the highest I had paid for a domain was $1,200, so I wanted to try and get him down and countered $1,000. He came all the way down to $2,650 and I accepted. He was adamant about proceeding through Sedo escrow so we did (at a 10% fee :/) and Sedo wound up publishing the sale, which I wasn't happy about.

It was interesting enough for someone to have posted it here, and at the time I was only a member of DiscussNames - someone there told me there was a thread at NamePros about Poker.in so I came here to respond to it and the rest is history. :)

Thank you! This is a much better story to your sale of Poker.in Because im willing to bet a lot of newbies thought you may have got it as reg fee during the landrush or something but letting us know you had to pay good money to get GREAT money is what domaining is about. Sure you can get a $12 domain and maybe get $100 or even $500 BUT for good domains even resell price you got to pay.

Thanx again for the light on this sale.
