How good of a deal are .infos?

I have been study domaining for about a month now and have really been interested in the theory behind monetizing parked domains. I have tried to collect as much information about this from different sources.

One of the things I am confused about is .infos, how good of a deal can they be? I mean at $1.19 a year it doesn't seem that it would take much traffic to turn a profit, and have a large amounts of these seems like it could produce a gradual trickle of income that could become substantial as a portfolio grows.

However, will the reduced rates to register .info domains hold over a long period of time? Or are the discounted rates something you cannot count on a few years down the road?

It just depends, personally I would never buy an .info domain. How many people do you know type in like... carstereos.info? i dont know anyone. If you are good at SEO however, you could drive traffic via search engines. Again though, IMO most developed .info's are nothing but link farms and don't provide much of any help to end users. Im sure someone out there is making money off it via developing and SEO, but if you just want to re-sell, I personally would not buy one unless you have 1 word.info's or very strong 2 word infos.

Other people will greatly differ in my analysis though - check around.

Good luck!

The discounted rate is only for the first year.

Indeed after the first year, its pricing is normal. I would second Mike on this one, you should buy .info if its a strong one word, or very strong 2 words domain, as .info sell for really low comparing to .com, the all-time premium extension and anyone taking his business seriously should find a .com.

If you put up quality content and work to rank for a term that will make you money through ads, than a .info will make you money. You will leak traffic to other extensions, but you can still turn a profit.

The discounted rate is only for the first year.

But still its good, if you spend few hours developing it. you will get your money back and make decent profit.

.info are the best ones to register, if you plan to develop using adsense

Register .info domain like "keyword+jobs, keyword+locations" and build minisite for information, use a adsense or similiar program and then bookmark it. You can get a profit, don't re-sale because if you need a resale .info price is so cheap.

For solution, develope a .com domain with short URL build with similiar site then forward .info to .com, wait a couple month and you ready for sale with higher price because this is .com domain. That's it....
