Over 10,000 feedback selling newly registered domain names, most of which sell for less than $4.00. How is he/she making money from this? :-/

eBay Feedback Profile for syntheticrhyme

Awesome question...
I have dealt with him before on ebay and I have often thought the EXACT same thing!

I Posted a thread the other day, and hung out in the thread and kept replying to my responses, and at the bottom of the thread you see Users currently viewing the thread. Well there was a User named Synthetic Rhyme in there, so I would assume it has to be him...

Hopefully he will respond to this.

I would just assume that he definitely makes alot more on few domains, and that offsets his losses???

Either way, ,he is an awesome seller, quick pushes, etc.

Great question though...lol

Some of them end in a few months, maybe he buys them hoping to sell them at a good price but then sells them off cheap to buy others if they dont sell in a few months.

I can't see it any other way, unless he over used one of the Godaddy 99 cent coupons at a SUPER LARGE scale, lol.

If I had to guess, I would say pretty much what Sean said. Could be a large buyer who flips a percentage of his names for a tidy profit, and then sends the remaining bulk to Ebay rather than let them drop. A few bucks on each name is surely better than a write-off. And probably just cream on top of the profits he's made selling the other domains.

its simple.

he sells lots of .info domains.

they only cost $1 to register during many godaddy promotions.

gets a nice roi and builds a great feedback #.

savvy guy.

added: sells some turnkey websites, also.

If you look through his feedback, most of the domains sell for roughly what he paid for them (eg. .com or .info regfee) and every once in awhile, one sells for far more which he profits from. On top of that, like MrRhee said, he's built up one heck of a good feedback rating doing it -- maybe he plans to list other domainer's domains for a fee in the future.

I sell on eBay as well with everything starting at $0.99 and honestly its not hard to make money once you get a good customer base and mailing list. Many domains you will loose money but many you will make money! I have had domains sell from the starting price of $0.99 up multiple hundreds of dollars. So really I'm guessing its the same for him, check out my store in the signature, 50 domains going up this saturday and sunday night

but let's all keep in mind the ridiculous ebay & paypal fees that erode your profits. you've got to factor that into the equation.

I started off selling domains on Ebay. I stopped doing it because the administration time was a pain. It takes time to make those listings and follow up with all the buyers. Don't forget about all the Ebay fees too.

It's a great way to build a client list though. I've been thinking of listing one domain a week on Ebay as a means of advertising my main site. I'm pretty sure you' re not allowed to have links in your auction listings but you can display URL's. I'm thinking a fair amount of visitors will visit my main site out of curiosity.

That's what the seller in question does. They feature their "about me" page in all their listings. The "about me" page directs visitors to their main website DBDomains.com. This probably results in additional sales which don't incur eBay fees.

hello

Hi everyone, I thought i'd give some tips on ebay. First off, yes the market on ebay is the worst that it has been in the last 4 years. If you list only a few domains, you will probably lose money. The key is to do high volume sales. Out of 50 domains you listed, you may lose or break even on 10-20 of them. But, on average, a few will sell for a few hundred or more which more than makes up for any loses. The more listings you do, the more traffic you will drive to your listings. More traffic = more end user sales. Try to direct any users to your about me page on ebay, which would then have a link to your website where you can list your main domain inventory. We usually get a couple of end user sales per month, many of which originated from ebay. This month we sold an education .net domain for $900 and a film related one for $1400
Also, the more traffic, the more you will earn from parking revenue. Ebay listings get indexed very quickly in search engines. Someone looking to buy a car may land on your car related domain (and not even knowing what a domain is, they'll go to the domain and click on a few sponsored ads from a parking page. Also, many people that purchase domains do not bother to update the nameservers (which means even if the transferred the domain to their account, we would still earn the parking revenue) Surprisingly, a domain can sell below reg fee ebay, but will continue to earn from parking revenue for years to come since the new owner does not bother to update the nameservers. I have one in particular which earned over $500 in parking revenue over the last year (originally sold it for about $20 a few years ago. The new owner keeps renewing it but never parks it or does anything else with the domain.

When listing on ebay, here are a few tips to keep in mind:
1. List at 99 cents, with no reserve (even if you list a name at 4-5 dollars starting price, it probably will not sell) By listing at 99 cents, you'll pay the lowest listing fee (starting at 1.00 will cost you 10 cents more per listing)
2. If you list domains daily, list them usually between 6:30-7:30 (ebay time, meaning the listings will get the most exposure from the west to the east in the US, which is where the most domain buyers on ebay live
3. Don't get attached to any domain you sell. If you list it at 99 cents, be prepared to let it go at 99 cents
4. I repeat, this is the worst time to sell on ebay, ever. Only sell as we do for cashflow. Otherwise, hold on a while as you will probably make twice as much when the market picks up
5. Your ultimate goal should be domain development. Always park your domains short therm, but develop every single one of them if you can. Learn basic html and php to build an auto updating website that can be indexed easily in search engines. I usually earn more from google adsense and other affiliate programs than from actual domain sales. In business, every bit of profit counts. Start with one domain, get it to earn even $20 per year, then, repeat and repeat until one day you'll have thousands, all profitable

hope this helps

Great information. You've developed a nice system there. I sent some rep points your way. Thanks for sharing.

I can't imagine you're doing this by yourself. It's gotta take a ton of time to keep all this running, not to mention the time it takes to find and register the domains.
