I came across the domain ExpiredAuction.com last year out of curiousity. I see that it was close to expiring. Put it on my watchlist. I became swamped with work forgot about it. I figured this domain won't expire or go into redemption or the very least it will go to "Expired Auction" lol. You would think right? And then expect to find the sale on Namebio.

Well none of this happened. I mean seriously. It's a category killer. Someone let this domain go? I'm guessing they caught it via Dropcatch because it was last registered with Dropcatch.

when it expired at Namebright? Namebright did not bother to keep this domain for themselves?

What surprises me is that the domain is now with Namesilo. I'm going to assume it was a handreg not a backorder.

Upon checking the history of this domain. This domain has been deleted before!

This is crazy. With expired domains being the equivalent of domainer catnip. How is this domain not going to auction after it expires or even delete and then gets backorders which in turn goes to auction?

Is this domain just not as good as I think it is?

I just don't get it.

Can someone explain?

someone really lucked out hand registering ExpiredAuction.com.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Quite easy it seems i have done similar with ticking boxes turning pages and selecting names wanting to be deleted if not paying attention can cost dearly. Although agree not that great.

Well it just expired, nomen omen...
Not a category killer by any measure.

expired audience
lol.
Google says about 20,700 results for the phrase 'expired auction', and searches obviously return results for expired domain auctions, but I imagine that it could also relate to expired food auctions etc.

I will not talk if this name is good or not. Is not so good imho, anyway.

Names get deleted because people die, companies get dissolved, peoples get sick.

I let expire half of my portfolio few years ago when I had a health problem, I just didn't have the power to check my stuff...

Things happens...

To everyone who says this domain is "meh".

So if someone developed this domain into a niche domain auction for just expired domain auctions.

it would not do well?

It's a url shortener for "expired domain auctions" isn't it?
/??
Sure expireddomain.com would be better. but ExpiredAuction.com a close second or even a tie?

Mediocre - the sort of domain a developer might build on but without the WOW! factor necessary to generate a premium sale.

ExpiredAuction.com is not a great name because it's too literal. And, as you point out -- it doesn't "make sense": the superior name is clearly ExpiredDomains.com. That is the better name to focus on as an investment and as a developed site. So, it would be best to ignore ExpiredAuction.com because a superior, similar name that makes more sense exists.

Still, an even better name would be brandable in nature. Not quite so literal. There's a good one dropping soon: ExpireWire.com. It's a nice rhyming brandable. I'd much rather own it than ExpiredAuction.com.

hmm nice. Thanks. sounds more like a domain that lists expiring domains. more like a newsletter.

not really for auctions.

Edit.

I see why you guys don't see value in ExpiredAuction.com.

does everything really boil down to domain sold history? I swear Namebio is both a Godsend and PITA.

They probably had other plans not compete in ExpiredAuctions when they saw DropCatch.

I wouldn't have hand reg it if i saw it on expireddomains dot net but I am just learning and my judgement is biased.
I understand that a company buying category killers, but i still haven't figured out why someone would pay xx, xxx for a two letter word etc. I would rather focus on branding a unique name, but shhhh!!!!
