Hello,

I need advice.

Sometime early this year, I was reading a blog about one of the biggest ecommerce company in the world and their newly launched product. It was stated that they acquired several other domain names for the product from hugedomains and other domain sellers.

My 6th sense was activated in the process and I decided to see what I could get from aftermarket and luckily, I was able to get hold of the VERY BEST domain than anyone they had bought from hugedomains and the likes.

Besides, they own similar domain for another product that has become mainstream for their business. The only difference is the EXACT name of the products while the second word that make up the domains are same. e.g

e.g: product1+gadget.com (for their other product) and mine is product2+gadget.com(mine for their new product). gadget isn't the real word. I made that up but I guess you know what I mean.

Having been able to acquire this domain name, I approached them and contacted the founder of the company. He told the customer care staff to inform me that I should send my letter to their corporate address instead of email(weird). The lady gave me the address to their marketing division.

However, during my email with the lady, she would often end her email with: "we do not compensate for unsolicited business idea". Why would she say such? Is it because I contacted them? she also said they will contact me if they needed more information.

The letter arrived since April according to my track but no news from them yet. It's been over 1 month since I emailed them.

So many questions on my mind right now like:

Are they interested?

Why would they not acquire what seem to be a better domain than anyone they had previously bought?

etc.

As at the time of writing this post, news broke out on fortunes that they have just released $100 Million to support the AI brain behind this new product. Why? It's a novel product that is poised to go viral just like their previous one.

What do I do guys?:xf.frown:

Be patient!!!

If the name is really that good, and they really need it, they will come to you.

You always have a better chance of getting more if an end user contacts you rather than the other way round.

That's the never-ending question. Maybe they just
think they have enough domains to cover bases. Just because they bought some domains, doesn't mean they are on a spending spree. Their available budget may be exhausted by now.

Also, if your domain has only one obvious end user, you are in a difficult position.

Agreed but they would have said they aren't interested at least. May be they have a lot going on now and acquiring a domain may be their least concern right now but I know for sure that mine is far better than anyone they had acquired.

Like DavidH said, patience. I will wait a few months more and contact them.

I agree with the answers, in the long term aspect of domaining you have to think to yourself, how can I be efficient and effective? You must keep going, let's say it takes that company 3 months to write back and decide to get the domain, simply while you wait stay productive.

Keep finding great names, keep reaching out, promoting and selling them. If the company really needs and wants the domain then they will come to you. The same rule applies when you get an offer from someone and then you counter offer, if they really want the domain they will keep the negotiations going.

- Will
