How do you guys make money?

Hello, I was wondering how do you guys make profit from domain? I see alot of domains going under $5 so do you guys do it.

I have 5 domain and spent roughly under $100 just investing including features on sedo, failed ebay auctions, webhosting, and the domains and still no luck for me.

What are the domains?

Why don't you list your domains so we can give you an honest appraisal.

They might not be worth anything. For every domain that is sold at a profit, their are 20 that are worth reg fee or nothing.

First, before blowing a large amount of money on new domains, take time to learn. Understand what makes a domain valuable, and what kind actually sells.

Second, find the domain parking venue that works best for your domain. This helps cover some of the registration fees while they are in your possession.

Third, learn at least some rudimentary web design/programming skills so that you can develop some of your domains. Development can add value to a domain, literally turning junk into gold.

I'm sure others can add their own tips here.

My philosophy is that for every domain there is a buyer. I was told that two domains I had with hyphens and 22 characters long was worth "reg fee" but I sold them both for $50 a piece. I was told that a .info I bought was worthless, yet I solf it for $15. Find your buyer is my advice and learn that peoples opinions should not dictate how, when and how much you sell your domain for.

my domain are listed in my sig beside bafangoo.com . Also how does revenue work? My domain are parked at godaddy and broadglobal.com is hosted with the rest being redirected to it.

They are referring to paid parking

Godaddy doesn't pay you to park your domains on their servers. Places like sedo.com and others will pay you on a per click basis for your traffic.

So if you get traffic to your domains, you can actually make money with no content of your own. You would just change the nameservers on your godaddy account and point them towards the paid parking service.

The $5 domain has several possible explanations.

1. Someone paid less at the registrar, Maybe a $1 or free .info promotion,etc.

2. Someone is liquidating. You make a bad reg decision and can't sell it in a year. Right before letting it drop, even getting $2 is better than nothing and letting it drop.

3. Package deals. I've sometimes puchased a package of several domains, wanting only one or a small portion for the price. The rest I liquidate at anything I can get for them.

4. Some people market like this old story:

Earl and Abe have a pickup and buy 10 bundles of firewood for $5 a bundle. They decide they can make some money and sell the whole truckload for for $40. After thinking about splitting up the cash, Abe says "Earl, I have less than I did this morning. How do you suppose other people do it and make money?". Earl says "Abe, My cousin has 5 trucks and makes a bundle. He says you have to make money on volume... We need to buy a bigger truck."

You can actually earn money by parking your domains at different domain parking sites and they will pay you per impression or click depending of your traffic quality. A few good ones are sedo and domainhop. Sedo will pay you for clicks and Domainhop will pay you for impressions

Okay...
If:
1. A bundle is worth $5.00;
2. The cousin makes 1 bundle with 5 trucks;

Then:
1. Earl and Abe bought firewood from someone with 50 trucks.
2. With $40 Earl and Abe can buy 8 trucks, which they can then PARK and earn money on CLICKS.

I'm not sure about domains, but that's how car dealerships operate.

I think the point here is that they bought the bundles for $50 total and only sold then for $40.00, meaning a $10 loss. With this business model, buying 5 trucks (and then buying 50 budles - 10 for each truck - costing them $250.00) they would lose $50.00 at the sale of all the bundles.

So not only am I confused as to why this analogy is relevent but also how on earth car dealers can make money from just parking cars on their lot and selling all at a loss. I mean how on earth is a car dealer supposed to make money on parked cars. Sedo only let;s you park domains, not cars.

Had abe and earl not spent money on wood, they would have been $10 richer and they could have bought moer domains to park than with the onlu $40.00 they have now.

I think the this thread has gone the way of the toilet water, it seems.

I think you've got to take time and understand how domains generate their value first.

Just because you think you've got a great domain doesn't mean the rest of the world sees it like that.

About how we make money on $5 and less sales.... When you sell 1 $300 domain, and 20 $5 names and it took you $6 per registration, 6*21 = $126, let's round to $150 cuz some domain extentions are more expensive than others. 300+20*5 = 400; 400-150 = $250 - there's our profit :p

Another good Explanation - And if the domain was parked or developed with affiliate links, there is a good chance you have made even more money before you sell it.

I will mention also that a lot of the "Featured Listings" through some of the auctions spy69 mentioned are pretty much worthless to most folks selling domains. Don't waste your money on much things like that - as I don't see many folks having much luck with them. If I'm trying to draw attention to a Ebay auction , Usually Bold or an Extra Title is the most I'll add to the listing and they only cost 1$ or less each.

I think making money is fairly easy if you do your research in the beginning before buying your domain. This way even if the domain is only ok, then you can still make your regristation fee back. Research is the key in my opinion.
