I'm Irish-American, so every day is St. Patrick's Day in our house. We play a lot of Irish music (LOVE the High Kings!), use a lot of Irish expressions, bless everything, and eat Irish-American food.On St.Pat's Day we get a little more goofy and wear green and decorate the house, also send greeting card to friends.

I would love some new, fresh ideas for making the day (or the whole month)special.

What do you do to celebrate St. Patrick's Day?

Wear green and hit the Irish bars of Cardiff. You get a lot of Irish people over here as it's just a short hop over from Ireland, so it's normally pretty fun.

St Pats Day over here does seem to just be about drinking until you can't see these days, I don't think half of the people taking part know anything about it!

Our university has a massive Irish student intake...taking advantage of our cheap fees :hehe:

So our uni puts on a massive party with over 3,000 people attending!

Lived in Ireland for 3 years and absolutely hate St Patricks Day in Dublin. Tourist trap, and excuse for alcohol junkies to get totally drunk and spoil the streets of Dublin with decadence. It's much nicer to see smaller scale celebrations in towns like Galway for example: no masses of tourists who only come for the booze, but the real authentic Irish get-together and a taste of the real Ireland.

Hint to everyone travelling to Ireland for the occasion: avoid Dublin. Go to a smaller city. It's much much more pleasant, you will be socialising with the real Irish people rather than with other tourists, and you will have much more fun than in Dublin where the party often gets out of hand. It is celebrated all over the island, I would strongly recommend another location but Dublin. Cork, Galway, Derry, ... Plenty of choice for a REAL Irish Paddy Day! On top of that, Derry and especially Galway are very interesting and vibrant cities, with a very charming cosy city center. Highly recommended to visit, with our without any celebrations going on! The West and North coast of the island are amazingly beautiful.
