How Do You Beat HugeDomains and BuyDomains in the Drop Game?

I get sick and tired of losing to those guys in the drop catching game.

I tried backordering at SnapNames, Namejet and Pool and a lot of times they still beat me.

Do I need to place backorders at all 3 at the same time?
Do I need to place much higher minimums on my backorders?

Its one thing losing a domain in a drop auction to someone bidding against me but to lose actual drops to HugeDomains and BuyDomains gets aggravating.
Is their drop catching software really that much better then the top drop companies?

What works for you guys?

I am quite upset with the backordering world too. Too many times I have seen domains literally disappear from Namejet just to find them a week later for sale somewhere else..

I would like to know more about this subject too, so I hope some of the pros will tell us something.
I know there are software that do that but I don't know how good they are.

Best way to beat Andrew " huge domains " is to backorder at all three places with a slightly higher bid ..

Snapnames beats him all the time with a higher bid

Shame that SnapNames is the worst place I have ever seen online. Their support is so bad I don't have words to describe it

The more people that express interest in a domain name (by backordering it), the more resources that will be allocated to drop catch it.

It's very rare that HugeDomains will beat NameJet if the domain name has 3+ bidders.

It was only me bidding on the 2 domains today and HD got both of them.

Just imagine if all Domainers out there have their domain portfolios at NameBright. Andrew doesn't even need to go through the drops anymore. Once your domain expires at Namebright, Andrew owns it. Anything that ACTUALLY drops after that, is practically garbage.

Yes but what about all the other registrars and dropping domains? Name Bright is a fraction of the market

I think I have only seen BD win like a couple names since I have been back in domaining and they have been non .com/.net names, so not sure what you're talking about lol

Reberry does pick up a lot of domains though.

That is why HD won, because it was only you bidding on them.

How To Beat Them

Solution: Get more people to backorder the domains that you want at NameJet. Then, NJ will dedicate more resources to acquiring them, and they'll beat everyone else including HugeDomains.

I have lost way more to HD then BD but I have lost a few to them.

I tried backordering at SnapNames, Namejet and Pool

First of all, forget Pool, they couldn't catch a deer in the headlights.

If you backorder at Namejet, Snap, and Backorderzone, the other guys will rarely win. You may want to add Pheenix to your list for an outside chance :)

what constitutes "a slightly higher bid", FX? $70?

I'm not sure who catches for Pool these days, but I thought they used all those Chinese/Korean/Indian registrars - I quite often see them catching names.

In the last weeks I have been keeping an eye on some domains as I was interested in them. I couldn't see them at NJ and I don't use SnapNames as they are just horrible..anyway...I backordered them with pheenix as they were available there but OBVIOUSLY HD got them.
Is there any possible way to get those holy domains???? It is frustrating!

P.S. mention of honour for Dynadot that can't even catch its own expired domains...

I find it very interesting that Andrew claims to have created a registrar for domainers, yet he himself makes it nearly impossible to register dropping names at NameBright. Does that make sense to anyone? He created NameBright (as mentioned above) for his own gain, not ours.

Side-note: When I first used NameBright to attempt catching dropping domains, I did the exact same search at the same time at GoDaddy. GoDaddy told me they were available and NameBright said they weren't. After complaining out loud on this forum he fixed it, but this doesn't happen by accident. You don't ACCIDENTALLY apply a delay to your registrar for dropping names. I have no doubt in my mind that he had this implemented to increase his chances of getting domains over people attempting to get them at his own registrar. Man I hope this guy sinks. He doesn't care about anybody. He's greed at its worst. He won't even stop catching for a day no matter how many people detest him or lose because of him. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but I don't like him. I'll never touch NameBright again. It's ironic (and very unfortunate) that I purchased my company name from him, Brandroot.com. But with him being the be-all and end-all of domaining, who hasn't purchased a name from him?

Ok...sooooooo...is there a way to stop him? Probably he created NameBright to make it easier for him to catch the names. I don't know hot it works exactly (so please feel free to say I am wrong here) but if you own a registrar company isn't it easier and cheaper for you to catch/register/renew domain names?

Is there someone out there who can tell me how he can possibly catch ALL the domains?????? Because honestly I don't get it!

I already answered your question in this thread:

I've explained this in another thread. Here you go:

I'm not sure how much you know about drop catching, but it can be simplified as the following: the more registrars you have going after the same domain, the better your chances of winning that domain. In other words: each registrar has the same chance of winning each domain (assuming competent drop catching software and allocation of resources), so to increase the likelihood of winning a domain, increase the number of registrars that go after the same domain.

Simplified example (a fair system): Since the probability of winning at any single registrar is the same across all registrars, attempting to drop catch 500 domains using 50 registrars will result in ~10 domain names at each of the 50 registrars. Now, the distribution isn't this clean because there are many competing registrars and resources are allocated differently depending on each domain's quality, but you get the idea.

HugeDomains has over 50 registrars.
