Thanks for the helping, I already have the pcs networked and the D drive is sharing, I can access the dvd files easily from the laptop BUT how do I get the dvd playing through the laptop? I have tryed playing the dvd using cyberlink powerdvd, my dvd playing software but can't get it to play on the laptop. Is there a special way to do it or is there a certain kind of playing software I should have to play over LAN?Luc said:sure. just create a home network between the two PCs (unless you've already done that). then double click on my computer (on the desktop) and right click on the DVD drive and select "sharing/security" or "properties" then select "Share this Drive" and give it some name.
Then on the laptop right click on "My Computer" (don't double click on my computer, but from the windows desktop right click on it). then select "Map Drive". Then find the laptops drive. It may be necessary to reboot the laptop first.
if you encounter problems following those directions google "map network drive windows xp".
i've played dvds over a lan, assuming your lan is FAST and not wireless, it should work well.
For some reason my windows media player wont even play dvds on the desktop it never has, don't know why.Luc said:try using windows media player. powerdvd is the best but im not sure how well it works over lan.
