There is a domain name that I want and when looked up at whois.net this info came up and it says expires at the end of this month. How do I get it? Can I reserve it? How do I know if 1&1 owns it or it is just a regular person. There is an admin contact also. Do you think there is any chance?

Since the domain is at 1&1 there is a chance it will immediately be transfered to Domcollect upon expiry.
Otherwise, it will enter redemption status if not renewed, then you can start counting days until release. You might have to place backorders with multiple dropcatchers if the name is remotely decent. But it's too early to tell now.
Just watch the whois and see what happens.

I thought 1and1 deleted the domains from the registry after 30 days?

Yeah, everything that Domcollect don't think is worth keeping.

I learned that when i typed in thewidgetshop.com it is parked on a page with a bunch of links and ads for 1&1. I called GoDaddy and was reading about their back order services. This is all new to me I told GoDaaddy about what I was trying to do and he explained to me that this was "parking" a domain name so ppl could try and make money by other ppl clicking on links from that page etc. Still don't know if that means whomever owns it will let it expire? and if I did sign up for a back order service Godaddy told me that then their are bids at an auction and it will probably be out of my reach. Will someone tell me the process? and what is domcollect" Thank you again.

p.s. is it worth it to get a .net if the .com is gone? or the .com is for sale? Also is it ok to put the word "the" in front of a domain name and/or the word "online" on the backend of a domain so you can get the .com extension? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Pickings are slim.

For me. I'd get the .net, assuming you are targeting a worldwide audience. But if you are only targeting a country, I'd get the cctld. Of course you could try buying the .com from the current owner, but it's unlikely to be cheap, but you could always ask.
