How did these 4 letter LLLL.com get sold for this price?

Just came accross 2 ebay sales of 4 character LLLL.com & couldn't believe the prices of these random domains. Are they really worth that much?

I've also noticed in the bidding history, there are some people that bid about 3-5 times upping the bid on themselves when nobody else has bidded. Why would anybody be stupid enough to do that?

And this guy calls them "Premium Domain Names"....lol

KYXR.com - US$152.50

HI

I have no idea why these domains would have got so much money...

I have better ones myself I would sell for $30 each right now,

Maybe the owner of these domains got a few friends to bid up the price.

Maybe you should keep an eye on the whois to see if they change ownership.

If you find more crazy LLLL combos selling for this kind of money post them here..

Thanks

There have been other posts regarding shill bidding on eBay - using friends or duplicate accounts to bid up the price of names, either to present them as more valuable elsewhere or in the hope of sucking someone into the bidding who is bidding real money. It is against eBay policy, but enforcement is spotty. Since the seller has to pay eBay fees in most cases, both the listing and final value fee, I have a hard time understanding how this could be a profitable scam. But it appears to be fairly common.

Both have decent google results, and are typos of KYXY (Radio station) and also possible identification of stations to come?
Just possible guesses.

I was thinking they were radio station call letters too.

Not sure, I just had a listing for 12 LLLL.coms with far better letters, starting at $150 and got zero bids :)

there is no enlightenment with kyxr or kyxv when searching on google
...re ebay bidding you can't up yourself unless you are less than a standard increment above the next lowest bid..all that happens is that other bidders might think you are putting in potential bid padding...................................

eBay is a strange market where a lot of people watch what other people are doing in order to get a value of what is good and what isn't.

As an ebay seller myself, there have been trends on ebay. Not that long ago there were several posts on Np's about 5 letter domains and there "crazy" prices on ebay. It has now switched to 4 Letter domains and will soon switch to something else. The buyers are legit (at least on my auctions), as several had purchased some of mine in the $40-$70 ish range and have paid very fast. Like I said, I think it's trends. A couple people see one or two going for more money and they jump in on the craze, which drives up several others, until the craze dies down.
