I dropped a domain reg. at Godaddy. It expired on 8th of this month. But when I checked the whois, lol the Domain had been extended for 1 year. I had not been charged for it.

The domain is automatically renewed on your behalf with the registry after expiration. Your not charged unless you opt to keep the domain name (sometimes paying a redemption fee if you wait too long). If you dont want the domain name, and no one on TDNAM wants the domain name, it will likely drop after the redemption period.

Yes, it is because godaddy extended the renewal date. You are no longer the owner of the domain name unless you renew the domain from redemption, It is also called Extended RGP (Redemption Grace Period)

If they didn't renew with the registry the name would enter redemption status from day one. Now the name is in grace period.
