How Can I Temporarily Turn Off Nameservers?

I need to temporarily disable a domain.

Is there a way to simply turn off the nameservers, and is that even legal?

I have an aftermarket domain that was assigned to a registrar that charges for forwarding.

I parked it so that I can put it somewhere until I can transfer it from the greedy registrar where it is now.

Unfortunately, my domain has been deemed adult and is displaying links that go against my core values and ethics. The parking company isn't acting fast enough to get the domain off the adult list, so I'd rather disable the damn thing until I can move it and then manage my forwarding without having to pay, and I don't want my domain to make money for the greedy registrar, so I don't want to take it off the parking page and have the registrar make money on what I suspect will also be porn links.

I tried disabling the porn links on the parking page, but one stubborn link keeps popping up.

Suggestions?

i'm not sure, but technicaly its possible to delete nameserver.

Another solution is: if it's not extreme name, send me pm and i can add your domain in my hosting (without any cost).

Why not point it to your hosting acct?

It looks like Ms Domainer uses Godaddy hosting. Do they allow to add domains that are not registred with them ?

the company most likly wont dont anything.
google provides the ads for almost all of the hosting companies out there.
and if they say its adult your screwed. :(
but if you complain enuf maybe something will happen who knows.
I had a domain i picked up used that was a kid/pre teen name and the name would be illegal to use as a adult site but they wouldn't let me park it without.after lots of fight with support i finally dropped the name but did a archive search prior and the only adult history i could find was it was parked at sedo as adult but was a established mom/parenting web site and company prior :(

Sign up for a free hosting account at atspace.com

They also run AwardSpace, but I guess there is a 2 domain limit there. AtSpace appears to be unlimited domains. I put a page on AwardSpace like five years ago and I just looked and it's still there. So if I was going to use freehosting, I would probably use either of these.

No name servers is technically possible (I've done it), but frowned upon - many registrars require at least one name server entry.

In regards to GoDaddy hosting, if they allow virtual domains to be setup, then all the OP need do is add the domain as a virtual host and update the DNS to GoDaddy hosting. If the OP doesn't upload an index page, depending on the webhost, the user will get a 403 or 404, which in this situation would probably be ideal.

use these:

NS1.LAMEDELEGATION.COM
NS2.LAMEDELEGATION.COM

Really, you can use ANY actual nameservers and they will error out if your domain is not actually in that name server....

If you can change the nameservers then point them to Whypark. Set all relevant articles, etc to 0 then add your own content.

Why not point it to your hosting acct?

I do have a hosting account at hosting matters.

The nameservers for my lame forum are

NS3.HMDNSGROUP.COM
NS4.HMDNSGROUP.COM

Can I just change to those, or do I have to do something on my cpanel as well?

I don't even care if it points to a dead page because it's just a temporary move anyway. I plan to redirect it in two months to a .net site, that is, IF I can get it off Google's black list (which I'm sure it's on, given the porn designation).

Despite my best efforts, the parking is now filled with porn links.

Not even a choice to cross out and leave blank.

UGH!

If anyone is curious about the domain, you can pm me, but PLEASE don't click on the links. I don't want to make money this way.

At this point, I don't want to say in public what the domain is. It's almost laughable that this domain would be designated as adult--it never even occurred to me. I even checked the Wayback Machine, and nothing shady came up for me.

If my account is accepted (I have just signed up), I will go with WhyPark. I like that you have control of your keywords.

Rep on the way for all who offered suggestions (if I can).

This is Namespros at its best.

Thanks!

You don't have to do anything else.
You don't even need to create acct for the domain on your hosting acct.

If you want the domain to show at least blank page...
1. create acct for the domain on your hosting acct.
2. create new file (blank page) and name it one of three below.
index.html
index.htm
index.php

That's it.

add ns1.godaddysucks.com and ns2.godaddysucks.com if you want your domain to not show anything. The visitor will get a Not Found error page.

I have always been paranoid of setting a domain to the nameservers of a host where I don't have the domain set up at. Though probably a very remote threat, someone could in theory set up your domain in their control panel at that host and do who knows what with your domain.

Yeah, that has crossed my mind as well, so I'm not making any impulsive moves.

I presume you meant to write lamedelegation.NET. Problem with using those particular name servers is that visitors will likely get a parking page, such as searchmagnified.com.

And that's not uncommon. Many name servers are setup with wildcards so that any domain pointing to them will automatically resolve, most often to parking; user will not get an error.

On a related note, intentionall unauthorized use of someone else's name servers could potential be a policy violation (ie. ISP TOS / AUP) or possibly even illegal.

The ideal solution is to delete out the name servers (talking gTLDs only; many ccTLDs forbid this), but few registrars allow that anymore. Though some will (in effect, temporarily suspending the domain) upon request on a case by case basis. IMHO, risky to ask for at registrars with less than outstanding customer support, because they may misunderstand what's being sought and instead delete the domain instead of just the name servers entries.

Stick with the free plan until you get it figured out. Just be aware that the Ghoug will likely deindex the site unless you use entirely your own content.

Well, the GREAT GOOG, in its infinite wisdom, has decided to INDEX the parking page, with all its porn links. What's up with that? I thought G never indexed parking pages.

Fortunately, my .net still out trumps the .com. It's like having a troubled child around: smart and good looking, but bad to the bone.

Today, I will decide something, even if I have to pay the registrar's ransom to forward the naughty kid to a more family-friendly site.

_____________________________________________

UPDATE: I was accepted for WhyPark's program and have set up the account and nameservers. It's still resolving to Sedo, though. It might take 24 hours, according to the FAQ on the site.

Some really nice features, so I'll be moving some more domains over there.

Thanks, everyone, for all your suggestions, offers, and support!

:)
