How can I delete the appraisal thread so I can start a new one? There's no option in the editing or list that enables me to remove it?

You can’t delete it, but you can lock it. That will allow you to create an additional thread.

You can also blank it out by editing it, effectively deleting it by deleting its content, but the thread must be unlocked to do that. Afterward, you can lock it.
