HostGator is running slow for me. Alternatives?

Hello. I'm a little disappointed with HostGator and am in the process of considering a refund. I find them way too slow, even for shared hosting. I'm looking for a host that fits these requirements.

1.) Fast load
2.) Inexpensive, but doesn't have to be too low
3.) Good bandwidth (50-200 Gigs)
4.) Low storage. 1-2 Gigs would suffice.
5.) PHP, Perl, MSQL, PhpMyAdmin -- all come with the package.
6.) No having to buy months in advance. Get to use 1 month package.
7.) Reputable. I'd like the host to at least have 3+ years of experience.

Can be semi-dedicated, shared, or reseller; looking more towards the latter two. I think HostGator has amazing plans but to me load-time is more important than 'unlimited' X and '99.9%' uptime.

Gene, do you feel it's a network speed issue or speed as in an overloaded server trying to serve a database-backed website, for instance? Also, by inexpensive, are you looking $5/month like Host Gator or are you open to $10-$15/month?

Give hostmonster a try. I have been using them for about an year now and I am quiet impressed with the hosting. And hey since its a shared hosting it does get slow at times. It happens when you have a very big script running or when you get too much traffic or the same happens to another website on the server. They normally have an CPU usage limit (abt 10%) for each hosting account on that particular server and once the account reaches the limit it would be suspended and the other sites will start running faster.

Network speed, I think. I had a simple page with just a black background and it still took long. Since I'm planning to use a Myspace clone code (heavy images), I find the idea of a growing database + slow speed intolerable. $10 and $15 is in my range.
