Host chaning issue: Please Help

Hi friends,

I request some information to resolve my host changing issue.

Recently, I decided to change the hosting of our web site to a new hosting company and I paid for one year. They told me that everything is fine from their side and asked me to inform my registrar to change the nameserver information. When I contacted the registrar, he said he can't change the nameserver information because the new hosting company is not yet hosted our web site. When I checked the whois information, it's still showing our old hosting company information.

The new hosting company is saying that once the registrar changes the nameserver information everything will be alright. But, registrar is denying to change the nameservers saying again that the new company is not hosting our web.

I'm not technicaly good in these issues. Can anybody help me to understand who is correct and who is wrong..

(Note: I haven't cancelled my old hosting yet.)

Regards,

Rajesh Joy

Hello Rajesh Joy,

could you be more specific, and which registrar is that ?
And which hosting is that ?

Normally, when you buy a domain, you will be given the username and password to modify what ever you wish with that domain. If you do not get the username and password, please ask them to give it to you.

In the control panel, you will see "Change Nameservers" , you can change that YOURSELF anytime, anywhere.

After changing that YOURSELF, you will see your domain pointing to the new hosting company's server.

............................................................................

For example, if your domain is hosted at Hostgator,
they will email you your Nameservers.
e.g
NS1.HOSTGATOR.com
NS2.HOSTGATOR.com

That is the nameservers you need to enter into the Domain control panel provided by the registrar.

...........................................................................

p.s - As I said above, you can change nameservers ANYTIME, ANYWHERE, there is no need to wait for hosting to change first or whatever.

Hope this helps :)
Good luck

Thanks a lot Aaron,

I do really appreciate your help.

My registrar is 'SaudiNIC' (i've no other choice as we have a ccTLD .com.sa. Most of the best registrars I've contacted can't register this TLD.) and Gate.com is our new hosting company. SaudiNIC are the most unprofessional guys I've dealt with. They don't provide any control panel nor do they reply to thetechnical assistance emails properly.

When ever I'm contacting them for changing the nameserver information, they are asking me to contact Gate.com and make sure that they host my web site. The reason they are pointing out is that: when they check our whois information it's still showing our old hosting company name.

I don't understand this as I'm not a web-professional. I'm in a Catch-22 situation.

Is it necessary that the nameservers also have the same ccTLD as the domain name??

Meanwhile, how is the 'whois' information retrieved?? Is that has any relationship with the nameserver information??

Who is your old hosting company and do they have any relationship with your registrar. You might want to post your whois data blanking out the domain name.

The answer is NO.

The reason they are pointing out is that: when they check our whois information it's still showing our old hosting company name.
That should not stop anyone from changing the nameservers. It can be changed anytime.

Ouch, every registrar should have a control panel. I have not heard of SaudiNIC.
But Gate is quite famous.

Well, if you don't mind having your website down for a few days,
then call and tell them, you need the nameservers changed URGENTLY.
tell them, you don't care if your website is down, or whatever, just force them do change the nameservers.

Actually SaudiNIC is just worried you won't have a website once they change the nameservers. But just tell them, you don't care about having your site down.

Once that is done, just upload your files to Gate's server using the FTP link they provided, and your done.
If you are not too sure about how to upload files, then you might wanna ask assistance from them.

Once all your files are at their Server, you should be able to view your site immediately.

Good luck.

Some countries require that the domains resolve before the domain name registration is granted. Perhaps the new host does not have your website set up? This could explain the response you got from the registrar. They may not be able to change the nameservers without a ready website at the new host. Or there may be a requirement that the host be located in Saudi Arabia.

There should be a back way into your new website such as hostname.com/yoursitename or something like that. Your new host can tell you what it is. With this information you can set up the site at the new host before you move the nameservers.

Please understand that I, and probably the other posters here, do not know a lot about this question. We are trying to answer from general knowledge and may be wrong.

Thanks a lot for your advice friends.

When I contacted my registrar today with the information I got from this form, he is now saying that, some 'NS Record' at my new hosting company is not correct.

Can anybody tell me what does he mean?

It sounds like the nameserver addresses you gave the registrar were either mis-copied from the information from your new host or the new host gave you mistaken information of the nameserver addresses. Check what you sent to the registrar. If that looks right perhaps you should contact your new host, tell them about the problem and ask them to send you the nameserver addresses again so you can resubmit them to the registrar.
