IN all fairness, hollywood.tv sucks in comparison.

I know they get some unique videos that other shows high lite, but realistically, the site looks amateur at best. Shalimar or whatever his name is made a huge mistake in moving to the me.tv platform.

That wasn't his only downfall, but it didn't help.

Right now there are 2 major sites to get Hollywood gossip.

PerezHilton.com
TMZ.com

Those are the most regularly updated, so best ones that people go to.

The rest follow them.

Forget the .me platform ... if .COM is getting good traffic from .TV this

means that the premium .TVs are greatly overvalued and maybe close to

being worthless and may also explain why Al Gore dropped the .TV and went

.COM for current.com.

It's a matter of perspective.

Let's take a hypothetical:

I own BriansWidgets.tv. I have this fantastic widget that I made, I sell it and market it on the .tv extension. I am Brian Smith, no nothing non-domainer. I bought the .tv because all other extensions were gone, even though they just went to parking pages. I, Brian, after two years of making money on the .tv, made an offer to the owner of BriansWidgets.com, because I feel it is a safer extension and I think it will get me more traffic.

The current owner said sure and offered it to me for $74, so I bought it.....

Now, realistically, from Brian Non-domainer's perspective....

A) Make the .com the main site, and repoint everything else to not cause confusion?
B) Repoint the .com to the .tv site and stick to my guns?

People KNOW .com.
People TRUST .com.

Do I like .tv? Yep

would I trade a .tv for the dot com same? In most cases yes. Realistically, we have some pretty good names in .com. ALSO realistically, we all (I hope) would truthfully admit that owning the .com same name would be a lot more lucrative.

My opinion is as has been said before. .TV is a developer's extension right now. Yes, there always exceptions to the rules, but that is all they are. People develop a .tv, and then as others have seen, sometimes the main players move to a .com when it suits them.

That being said, you know what I have seen lately? Late night infomercials are using .tv more and more.

The .COM is not getting good traffic because of the .TV. Hollywood.com is owned by a public US company. They have access to millions which can be used to brand build and drive traffic to that domain.

This leakage would be more concerning if it was high

Now that is just nonsense

Just since you found out that a major .com gets more traffic then a badly designed .tv then "means that the premium .TV's are greatly overvalued and maybe close to worthless"

So since many of LocalExperts .TV sites get more traffic that the .com's then does that make the .com's overvalued or worthless?? :?

Leakage is money lost and it helps your .com competitor and you are paying

a premium for the privilege of doing so. :|

The Local Experts Network get more traffic than Hollywood.TV. Anyone who is in marketing, realizes that TV ads are horrible for getting people to come to a web site. My former company purchased a super bowl ad. It was a small blimp of extra traffic and then back to regular levels. IE. a waste

http://www.quantcast.com/p-2coUlW7v6dBfI

http://www.quantcast.com/hollywood.tv

We have our traffic without wasting alot of energy and money in promoting in print, traditional media, outdoor, etc - all things we have tried and realized are worthless promoting an internet site.

Heck, my former company was on the front page of 40% of the yellow pages in the US - did nothing for us.

Don't think for a minute that being splattered across TVs means you will dominate the world in the cyberspace

Look CBSCares.TV is promoted all the time on CBS

Look nothing

I remember an online casino that plastered their url on billboards everywhere

and they later went bust ... I have also seen a free classifieds company

advertise nationally in print media aimed at computer enthusiasts and they

too went bust.

I own a developed .Tv & also the tv.com but only ever advertise the .tv site URL, the tv.com gets virtually no traffic at all so In my experience leakage from .tv's in very little.

Especially not enough to convince me "if .COM is getting good traffic from .TV this means that the premium .TVs are greatly overvalued and maybe close to being worthless"

That comment really winds me up.

Please don't wind Ronnie up. He is the Energizer Bunny. He will keep going and going and going

And that is why rule #1 in marketing is test a campaign and source before going hog wild throwing everything into it

Back to Hollywood.TV - for all that promotion, their traffic is not bad. Their problem IMHO is the ChannelMe site is not very attractive or professional looking when compared to the competition.

Little story. I was in NYC. I went into Trump Tower. A sign was halfway peeled off. It ran completely counter to Trumps' brand

Same with Hollywood.TV. Your brand is glitze and you drop them on a basic site that looks like you took a trailor park and put welcome to Hollywood on it.

Sorry that isn't great marketing.

I'm not Hollywood.TV, I'm on ChannelMe, with some Hollywood graphics put around it.

True

Look at that comment though George... does it now wind you up? You have many more Premium .tv's that i do, do you suddenly feel you should Bin them all since Hollywood.com gets more traffic than the awful Hollywood.tv?? :o

I won't bang on about this anymore as i'm sure he knows it was a stupid thing to say.

I like intelligent debate. I normally can see and argue boths sides of a debate. But I can't make any argument to support this assertion.

PS> Like you siggie - Reminds me of one - Whip me, Beat me, Make me reg bad domains.
