It's a matter of perspective.
Let's take a hypothetical:
I own BriansWidgets.tv. I have this fantastic widget that I made, I sell it and market it on the .tv extension. I am Brian Smith, no nothing non-domainer. I bought the .tv because all other extensions were gone, even though they just went to parking pages. I, Brian, after two years of making money on the .tv, made an offer to the owner of BriansWidgets.com, because I feel it is a safer extension and I think it will get me more traffic.
The current owner said sure and offered it to me for $74, so I bought it.....
Now, realistically, from Brian Non-domainer's perspective....
A) Make the .com the main site, and repoint everything else to not cause confusion?
B) Repoint the .com to the .tv site and stick to my guns?
People KNOW .com.
People TRUST .com.
Do I like .tv? Yep
would I trade a .tv for the dot com same? In most cases yes. Realistically, we have some pretty good names in .com. ALSO realistically, we all (I hope) would truthfully admit that owning the .com same name would be a lot more lucrative.
My opinion is as has been said before. .TV is a developer's extension right now. Yes, there always exceptions to the rules, but that is all they are. People develop a .tv, and then as others have seen, sometimes the main players move to a .com when it suits them.
That being said, you know what I have seen lately? Late night infomercials are using .tv more and more.
