.hk names

I saw today that .hk opened up their registration, and many premium domain names look like they are still available. Is there a reason for this? Why wouldn't they be snapped up?
They speak English in hong Kong, and a lot of business is done there, so I thought it would be higher demand?
any ideas?

That is not corect. The were different rules for the "soft launch" period to the current sunrise offering and there seems to be some confusion.

Sunrise payment is not required until the names have been allocated , after 9 Feb, as in the case of more than one applicant for each name then a "draw" will take place after which the winning applicant is obliged to pay or forfeit the name.

Last night, I registered these names:
pens.hk
meds.hk
renter.hk
condos.hk
hedge.hk
suits.hk
londonhotels.hk
newyorkhotels.hk
customsuits.hk
mutualfund.hk
lawschool.hk
lamps.hk
commercialrealestate.hk
manufacturer.hk

These may not be the best domains that exist, but clearly, you can see that there are still some decent names left. In addition, most native hong kongers speak English as their first language, which means that there are more English speakers there than there are in Denmark, Germany, France and Italy combined.

I think that there are still some nice names left.
