Historical LLL and NNN Wholesale Price 7/2005 to 11/2011

First off thanks to 3character.com for the "Minimum Wholesale Price" data. Secondly, my apologies for the width of these charts, but I wanted to show as much data as possible.

Note the huge drop in about July of 08 and then a leveling out after that.

I think the historical info listed below is a good barometer of the reseller market.

Due to time constraints I have not included the .biz, .us, .info or .mobi, but the data is available there.

Very interesting... do you have theories about what is the driving force behind the price increases and decreases? Summer '08 was around the time during the US elections when the economy's (lack of) strength became a focus so it makes sense investors were tightening their belts. Parking and PPC rates also seemed to have dropped around the same time.

I believe there could be political/economy factors, but I also believe it has a lot to do with supply and demand. At that time and for months before a few big players could have been trying to secure as many LLL as possible and that drove the price up. Perhaps once they had as many as they wanted and the demand fell so then the prices.

To me it looks a lot like a stock price, it gets overvalued and then a drastic "correction".

Anyone purchasing NNN.com's seemed to do well and they continue to hold their value. However there are only 899 NNN's while over 17,000 LLL.

It matches stock market data. Rough summer, then the stock crash of October 08 and down until spring 09.

Combine this with the fact that almost all domain buys are unnecessary expenses (since so few are ever developed) and the domain market crashes along with everything else.
