I would have never thought that business.com would have went more for internet.com I don't know why I think this, but I do, lol.

I think internet.com is a premium, like money.com and stock.com. $150,000 was a steal, but then again, I still can't afford it if it goes for $150,000 now haha!

true i think that ppl might even pay a bit more for high profile domain because of the publicity it gives the site so the buyer might count that as advertising costs

You are completely right about that Bill.

Men.com was milked to death in the press by Rick Schwartz and "Men LLC".
(apparently Rick is letting them use the address already)

Actually i own 1stbandwidth.com that supposedly sold for $800,000. I backordered it last year and got lucky. Although, I cant verify this fact myself if it sold for that much, but i have been contacted by different sources if I have it available for sale.

Please advise

Re: highest (published) domain sales of all time

Cars.com was the biggest steal in the list IMO.
Incredible name today would go for $1M+ very easily.

You do, don't you? When I visited www.1stbandwidth.com, the first thing I saw was your "for sale" notice.

Remember that nothing on that list is "absolute fact" as none of us can see the money that changed hands. Some of the news sources were more reliable than the others.

1stbandwidth.com supposedly changed hands in March 2000 for $800k, but I am beginning to doubt that more and more. You can Google for the news sources and see what I mean.

(Also consider the $800k may have been some kind of inflated stock trade with hyped cash value that is really a fraction of that.)

Broadband.com sold?

Noticed that there is a new registrant on the recently live broadband.com site.

The asking price on Greatdomains a while back was ~ $600,000-$800,000 if i recall.
Anyone know what price the domain went for (if it wasnt confidential) ??

If ur talking about Business.com then ur right.
$7.5M.
Regardless of whether paid with inflated stock/cash/contingency payments that was overpriced - and the founders admitted as much after changing their business model a few times.

The term "business" itself is virtually meaningless encompassing almost everything: overused, a mile wide and inch deep. And the site admits as much - it's one of them generic looking (own-label) PPC search pages, LOL.

No doubt SEs like Google affected their orig biz plan.
Wait, why not just use Google instead? LOL

The seller must be happy...

A few of the highest ones seem to be the same companies - so they may have invested a lot more than people realize for the "Entire" Network ,Portal ,or Directory. ~

altavista.com - $3.25 million (1998)

I think its way cheap. Lycos Network sold for a billion few years back.

Altavista with good developement could have earned 10 million in the first few years just by dumb advertisement. Ahhh wish i had that much of monnek to cough up.

This reminds me to check if that price was for just the domain or with any existing services. Because if it wasn't for just the domain it should not be on this list.

Looks like people who sold these great names are not members of this forum. Why?

Typically those kinds of sales either take initial investments of alot of money (hence these forums are wholesale) or they got on board many years ago before there were tens of thousands of speculators.

Remember I am only listing sales $100k and above to keep the list relatively short. There are a few members here who have had five digit sales.
