Help with expired domains..

Hi Folks,

I'm not very familiar with the expiration process of a domain name. If whois Information say the domain expire in 10 days. Then, when can I register the domain name ? Is there a redemption period or ?

What is the process as soon as the domain expire ?

So, it takes 80 days from the date shown as the expiration date.

Seems kindda long.
