Ok, well I have had my domain name selling website up since November and have sold 4 domains from the site (meaning they went through the whole buying process via the shopping cart etc) total of about $1700.

Every domain except for a handful is forwared to the sales page (so when anyone types in the domain name into the window it will go direct to the sales page for that domain)

My question is I know im losing money even if pennies buy not parking with ads BUT I want the users that go to the sales page possibly be that one that wants to buy it and KNOWS its for sale.

Is it better as a business to keep it as a forward to the sales page OR develop as a mini site with affilate ads etc and just have a small link to go to the sales page?

What would you do?

Thanx for those that replay

I'd go with having a link saying that the site is for sale.

If a buyer is interested in the name, chances are he'll take a closer look at the site and find the sale link. I'd also make a note in the Whois information that the domain is for sale. :imho:

Unless you are selling domains in the $XX range (the impulse buy range for most people) then just put up a link on the site saying that the site is for sale. Anyone seriously interested in buying the domain will take the time to look at the site long enough to find the for sale link.

That's what I did I own K e n y a E c o t o u r s dot com and have done a mini website page but when read more find domain for sale, this is better than parking because:
1- No comission taken when sold from parking site but will need to pay escrow services
2- Get listed in Google (atually mine in ranked on top with same keyword in domain)
3- It's more professional than a parking page (free to add logo, content...)

Don't try to develop it, value will fall. If you want to develop because you want that website but don't think of selling, then you can develop it, you can lose up to 50% value when it is develop it. End users that want to buy a domain name for their business don't want to see anything with that domain name.

Thanx for the responses so far...Seems all are saying put up some sort of content rather it be parked or small mini site...Now the $1,000,000 question...

Now that I still have my selling website, how do I market that site AND try to market the seperate domains that are built out? Sounds like way to much work. Thats why I went the route of putting all my domains on 1 website and forwading the name to the sales page...take BuyDomains for instance.....they list all their domains for sale and promote that site, rather then promoting the single domain + their site. Hard to do and time wise when you also work 10+ hour days at your main job ;(
