Hi NamePros Members,

I have a problem will creating a CNAME.

Here's what I need to do:

I need to create a CNAME record in my mydomain.com domain management area and have it point to http://foundationapi.com.

Your CNAME should be something like http://order.mydomain.com and it should point to foundationapi.com.

Could anyone walk me though the process of setting up the CNAME.

The web site is ready to go, once I get the CNAME set-up.

I have control of the Cpanel, FTP.

Thanks For All Your Help Ahead Of Time.

This cannot be done through cpanel, you'll have to ask your webhost to do this through their control panel. It will be an easy task for them.

OR, if the domain is with eNom you use their free DNS service to do this. Let me know if that's the case.

Hi JW,

This can be done through RegisterFly. I'll write out step by step instructions for you. You'll first need to find out your site's IP address. If you don't know, you can let me know the domain and I'll look it up for you.

Give this a shot, JW

Steps to setup your own DNS at RegisterFly (and add a CNAME alias)

1. Log into RegisterFly. Click on the domain you are managing.

2. Click on "Advanced DNS (MX, MXE, CNAME, ADDRESS, ZONE FILE) Management" (about halfway down the page under 'Advanced Domain Settings/Services').

3. Under 'Advanced Settings' you'll want to use the first three lines, under where it says 'Del. Host Name Pref Record Type Address' Add these three entries

Hostname: @
Pref: 10
Record Type: ADDRESS
Address: 66.246.37.207

Hostname: www
Pref: 10
Record Type: ADDRESS
Address: 66.246.37.207

Hostname: order
Pref: 10
Record Type: CNAME
Address: foundationapi.com

Click 'Save Settings'. Since you're no longer using your host's DNS, it will take around 24 hours for http://order.domaindude.net to start working.

Congrats! You just setup a DNS zone!

Hi,

After a mind-boggling exchange with the Registerfly support staff...I finally gave up. What luck that I found this forum! Not only that, you are obviously familiar with Registerfly's setup.

Need help with Registerfly-CNAME settings please.

I have 2 entries:
1. myweblog.typepad.com
2. exampledomain.com

I want that typing 'exampledomain.com' should take the browser to 'myweblog.typepad.com'.

There are 2 fields, 'Host Name' and 'Address'. What goes under each field, and in what form?

Thanks, SSH

Follow the same process as outlined above for advanced settings

For typepad.com

hostname Record Type ADDRESS
myweblog CNAME typepad.com

Will resolve to your site when myweblog.typepad.com is entered

If you are trying to direct to a specific Ip address just enter

hostname Record Type ADDRESS
myweblog ADDRESS 123.123.123.23 (Use your own IP ADDRESS)

Thanks for the help.

You write that: "...Will resolve to your site when myweblog.typepad.com is entered". Although, what I need is that when my domain-name is entered, the user is taken to my weblog at TypePad.

I have made the changes accordingly. I hope these settings will work.
SSH

ps: After writing the above, I found this link:
http://www.registerfly.com/info/helpmenu.php
According to this, one should put the registered domain-name in the address field. Your comments?
