I own CabFlag.com and thought it might be good to sell to the cab/taxi industry's booming mobile application companies. Theres already sites and companies like taxihail.com or cabcharge.com or grab taxi, and I think CabFlag is on the same level if not better due to its catchy, commonly used and extremely relevant terms, 2 syllables, and sorta rhymes... anyway heres my soon to be email proposal to cab company end users. Let me know if I should revise it at all or what I can do to make it better. I appreciate any constructive well though out feedback. Thanks in advance! :)

Title:

CabFlag.com domain is for sale! Catchy, 2 syllable, very relevant, dominant keywords.

Hi __________,

As you already know, to "flag a cab" is a very commonly used term and one of the main keywords people say and search for when they need to find a cab to ride. I am contacting you today to let you know that www.CabFlag.com is for sale! It is a very catchy, succinct, and memorable name for any company, or cab/taxi flagging iPhone application. Among the world of domains, it is very valuable especially as a 2 syllable word, that rolls off the tongue easily and is extremely relevant to the cab and taxi industry.

Company names like Uber, Flywheel, goCatch, Cabcharge, Lyft, Sidecar, hailo, zipcar, are all very nice names but at first glance to a new user, they could mean anything from a elevator company (Lyft), to a greeting card company (hailo), or even a baseball company (goCatch). Such names take a lot of branding and familiarizing for people to connect the name with the company's function. However, with a name like CABFLAG.com or a CABFLAG iPhone app, anyone, new users or old, can easily know and recognize what it does. You want to flag a cab? Use CabFlag. For the drunken 2 am bar hopper who needs a cab immediately, an easy name like CabFlag is easily memorizable and relevant compared to a stylized and recombined name with an extra Y or O.

The Cab industry is very competitive and with a website like CabFlag.com or an app called CabFlag, you will definitely guarantee that your company's name is not only immediately memorable and relevant, but will also stand out amongst the crowd of fancy recombined jargons, some of which don't even exist in the dictionary.

I have contacted many of the main and startup cab/taxi app and cab ride companies, come buy CabFlag.com today before one of your competitors scoops it up!

Auction link : xxxxxxxxxxxx, sedo or something, or even private auction

Sincerely yours,

XXXXXXXXXX

I think that E-mail is way too long, you need to be short and to the point - one or two paragraphs at most.
Few people will bother to read I think. it almost looks like spam. Isn't it spam anyway ? You say "I have contacted many of the main and startup cab/taxi app and cab ride companies".
Keep in mind that good names speak for themselves. The more you have to explain them, the more their value is questionable.
Also the final line almost sounds like blackmail... instead you could say that if the recipient does not show interest, then you may move on to the next lead. Let's be honest, you are not selling taxi.com or cab.com... this is not a domain that is going to start a bidding war.

Now, since the domain is brandable, irrational factors come into play. Simply put, the owner/decision maker has to fall in love with the domain (more or less). They have to be able to see the domain as their future brand. If they are already branded, then it's not likely they will make the switch, unless their current domain really sucks... imo. Trying to justify brandables is a somewhat pointless exercise. You like the name or you don't.

Also, this domain was registered less than a week ago. Anybody can see that. It's been registered and dropped multiple times in the past, but there is no history of development:
http://www.hosterstats.com/historicaldns.php?domain=CabFlag.com
So the merits of this particular domain are not so obvious.

hmmm good point, this is my first time directly selling to an end user. Maybe I made it too long, should I write it as an elevator pitch instead? I'm afraid if I dont directly list out the merits of the name that they will just gloss over my proposal.

does the last line really sound like blackmail? its a true fact that I'm contacting all the cab companies, and they should get it before a competitor does...

how would you word this?

thanks for the detailed response btw

I believe an elevator pitch is only effective in face to face or over the phone sales as you can tell when and how to close. Using one in an email will only result in more unnecessary writing. KISS your email pitches (not to be misconstrued as an insult) and economize them where a busy start-up manager can read them in 30 seconds or less. Keep interest with the effective use of a modified elevator pitch that is well placed in strong slots of 2 short paragraphs and a close.

You should not mention the domain repeatedly or include links as it may be flagged.

Remember, this person has other things to consider to help his business than to read a book.

This reply is the longest your email should be,
David

hows this, I pretty much cut down the second paragraph.

Hi ________

I am contacting you today to let you know that www.CabFlag.com is for sale! It is a catchy, succinct, and memorable name that may be good for SEO, which should help bring you more business. The website right now is just a sample website, not developed to its potential yet, but can be suited for an iPhone app or online cab booking service.

With a domain like CabFlag.com or an app called CabFlag, you will definitely guarantee that your company's name is not only immediately memorable and relevant, but will also stand out amongst the crowd of fancy recombined jargons, some of which don't even exist in the dictionary.

I am reaching out to many of the main and startup cab/taxi app and cab ride companies, and I am discussing the sale of www.CabFlag.com if you have an interest.

Please let me know when you have a chance.

Regards,

XXXXXXXXXX

Who exactly are you going to send these mails to? A branded company won't decide to change their brand no matter how convincing your email is. Aside from branded companies, how would you know where to send an email?

For this (and a host of other reasons) brandable domains are simply not suited for outbound sales. Outbound sales work for names that a company can use right now. They don't need to be explained - the company will either see value in the name or not. FlagaCab.com would be a good example.

It takes a lot of time and effort to put together a list of leads and send the emails. A shame to waste that time on the wrong name. Find a good keyword name and give outbound sales a shot.

Put a For-Sale sign on cabflag.com, forget about it, and hope to get a nibble.

there are tons of cab app startups these days getting millions in venture funding, with crappy names... like gocatch. now does that sound like a more like a baseball service or fishing service to you or a cab service? I'm pretty sure CabFlag is on par with leading industry company names, like TaxiHail or Cabcharge... maybe theyll want it for a side company or app.

I like what you're doing here. You're right a lot of cab apps have bad names. Uber itself isn't a great name, it used to be called UberCab. And I think curb used to be called cabmagic. I noticed these apps tend to change their names so thats good.

do most email filters throw emails with _____.com into the junk mail section? should I say _____(dot)com instead when contacting an end user?
