Help! Keyword stuffed domain name or catchy brand domain name?

So I have two websites; one which I named something catchy and easy to remember despite the fact that it had no relevance to the subject the website was about and the other which I named with keywords.

The first website is called MoonProject and actually gets pretty decent traffic despite the unlikelihood of someone searching MoonProject for what is contained in the website.

The second is Tech Reviewer and I imagine it gets a few views here and there for its keyword stuffed name. As a newer site, it isn't yet getting as many views.

My question is - do you think it is better to keyword stuff a name? Or do you think it is ok to go for something unrelated and catchy?

I would put a poll in here but I don't know how.... Thanks for your help. I am planning to make some new websites so I am interested in public opinion on this topic.

Hey MoonProject, first of all Welcome to the forums and I hope you love it here, definitely some helpful information you can gather from the guys that hang around.

Now, your question is actually pretty common, however no one would be able to give you a straight answer or a formula for that one. It really comes down to one thing - a domain is as valuable as you can make it.

From a domainer standpoint, if you have a great idea for the domain and you can properly market it to the right crowd, you can turn a good profit on any domain, regardless if its keyword-based or brandable.

Pretty much the same goes if you plan to use the domains for a website. As you have seen yourself, your brandable domain brings you a good amount of traffic even if it doesn't rely on keywords. Same can happen with your other website too - if you optimize it properly, fill it with great content and advertise it through various communication methods you cannot go wrong.

Hope that makes it at least a little more clear for you :)

I use short brandable name if the site is about a company, its offerings, so branding is clear.

I use keyword domains, specially EMD, if the site is about a niche category, product, service. This way the visitor easily associates the site name to site purpose.

One option which I have not tried recently ( i mean, few years ) is to host the site on branded name and also have the keyword domain point to the branded name. Search engines have become more particular about duplicate websites, so ask around here how to do it properly. ( how to setup canonical site )

Domain name matters from easy recall viewpoint but obviously unique content is king.

Nice sites.

After you click 'Post new thread', on the 'Create Thread' page, scroll down and you will see 'Post a Poll'.
